My third cabinet.
« on: December 15, 2008, 10:39:07 pm »
Hi all, now its christmas and I have some time off I thought I wold do another cabinet..   I see the last one I did is still on the forums if you want to see my previous attempt..

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=72618.0

Unfortunately my wife won't let me keep it so I plan to build something with a bit of WAF on the odd chance at the end of it she will :)  Now my only problem is dreaming up what I want it to be.. I have no ideas!  I always liked cocktail cabinets but that was when I was 8 yrs old.  Not now I am 35 and too tall to get my legs under them!

I had a digg around and still happen to have 4 happ ultimate joysticks and about 30 buttons...  Because I live in New Zealand its best to buy a few more then you need just in case.  You dont want to have to pay that shipping again for a few bits..

I reckon the 'woody' looks good..  Of course my real problem is that I would like to keep it therefore put nice controls in it, like more of my u360's but that doest make sense for something I end up selling..   Not to mention I couldn't get them shipped here  before new year anyway..

Must think up more ideas!  I only have a apre 19" widescreen as well..  would like to try and use that as its free but I dont think the size and aspect ratio lends itself to much..

I guess I felt like a ramble, will post when I have an idea! :)

I really liked your cabinet with the 1942 art...was it that one she didn't like or the horror show paint job one?

It was the horror show she didn't like :)  The one in the other thread I still have and am allowed to keep :)   It is pretty large though so a smaller one is something I am thinking about for this project..

How about a Jukebox? Wives might be a bit more tolerant of Jukeboxes.

try for a LCD based sit-down cabinet. They can be alot smaller and take up much less space. Though...they are a bit more expensive because of the LCD monitor/tv.

and for love of pete....no more jukes! lol. I love them...but there's like 8 juke projects going on right now! need more arcade lovings!

Well, I think it has been decided.

Not in favour of an arcade machine..  Well, it sort of is but not immediately.  I thought with the christmas break and my extended time off it would be a good time to extend my workshop..  I have two, one for metalwork and one for woodwork.   I have been meaning for a while to extend the woodshop to get an extra  22 square metres (243 square feet).  This is good because I get to spread out the machinery and I can also assemble projects in the shop now, rather then in the house!

This will let me do anything I want in the future as I won't get any complaints from wifey about building stuff when she knows some of it will get assembled inside..  Err except for arcade machines when I want to bring them inside after the build  ;D   I get projects done pretty quickly anyway but this should help speed things up in the future as well..
