Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles (UK thread)
« on: December 14, 2008, 10:06:27 am »
I’ve noticed that there’s still an active thread about the Sarah Connor Chronicles. Unfortunately, I daren’t look inside in case I come across a spoiler. For some reason in the UK we’re about a month behind the US, so I’m starting a UK thread.

So far series two has been a mixed bag. Overall I’d say it’s on a par with the first series. There’s only been one truly bad episode (the one where they go and see the psychiatrist) but there have been several mediocre ones.

The episode that I saw yesterday, which is the one where they kill Cromartie, was truly excellent, possibly the best of the series. I just can’t get enough of gunfights set to inappropriate music.

Despite the occasional weak episode it’s still easily the best thing on TV at the moment. However, one thing I don’t like about the TV series is that the terminators just seem too easy to kill. In the films there was no way that you could kill a terminator with a bullet, even a high calibre one.

the one where they "kill" Cromartie they had 2 people shooting him (in the head area) with automatics and then the "cameron" hit him close range with a shotgun that had shells in it, not shot, it pierced the metal and damaged the CPU

The weakest thing about the show is the fact they have a liquid terminator (T-1000) holding an office position, I actually liked the therapist episode, gave the characters some dimension, I just dont like HOW many people and terminators that have been sent back

The next few episodes are really good also.  The last few have been the highlight of the series IMHO.

And I think we've been pretty good about NOT having spoilers in the other thread.  Just in case you do look in the other thread.

Great series so far!

Well I agree that in real life it would be difficult for even a machine made out of a strong alloy to survive such an onslaught. But the Terminator series has never been about total realism. For example, in the movies Arnie is shot at by dozens of cops for a long period of time and only sustains some superficial damage.

Also, in one of earlier episodes a terminator is actually killed by a single shot to the head. OK, strictly speaking he’s not dead at that point, and they have to burn him to finish him off, but that single shot renders him incapable of fighting back. If a good marksman can potentially take out a terminator with a single shot then suddenly they’re not that scary anymore.

They showed a short preview of the next episode and it did look very promising.

I started the US thread.
You can watch up to date episodes on fox.com.
Also, tomorrow night is the season finale here. Looks like it's going to be good.

no he wasnt, he was stunned, they ended up dropping him in tar and lighting him on fire.  Unless you're somehow talking about a different scene/episode

Well if you read my next sentence, that's more or less what I said.

Another example of an easy kill is the episode in which Cameron is fighting another terminator in a lift. She bends the terminators limbs around like it's a rag doll, and then IIRC kills it with its stiletto heel. Now I realise that Cameron is supposed to be super strong but even so it looked pretty easy. The liquid metal terminator in the second film found it a lot harder to damage Arnie's terminator.

I thought everyone over the pond downloaded their shows to keep current? Do a search for EZTV.

It is incredibly stupid that shows are delayed in this globally interconnected day & age.

I assumed most of those places block international I.P. addresses. Now I am curious if they do.

I think it's just a matter of scheduling i.e. one series has to end before there is a spare slot for another to begin. IIRC the first series was actually shown at the same time as it was in the US.

Saw another episode a couple of days ago, the one where they torture and kill a collaborator who’s been sent back in time supposedly as a reward (or perhaps for another yet to be revealed reason). It wasn’t as good as the last episode but it was still pretty decent. I like the way that they address the implications of being able to time travel. It also helps to plausibly explain away some of the discrepancies between the TV series and the films.

Unfortunately, for some reason, they’re suspending the series until February.  :banghead: So I might be forced to visit the bittorrent sites to get my fix.

They're doing a winter break in your country...without showing the fall break finale?!?! What is the point of that!

I wish I knew. I've given up trying to understand the logic behind TV scheduling decisions. It's not as if the channel lacks spare capacity. I could understand that if it was the genuine reason. But they show the Sarah Connor Chronicles 4 times a week! Not that I'm complaining, I've watched many of the episodes more than once.

Incidentally, has anyone here bought the series 1 box set on DVD? I was toying with the idea of getting a copy as it's fairly cheap on Amazon. I know I could download it, but I'd like to support the series.

From what I've been reading, it's best to get the region 1 version as it apparently has better extras than the region 2 version. Can anyone confirm this?
