MAMEWAH 1.63 vs 1.61, what changed?
« on: November 12, 2008, 06:45:19 pm »
I was hoping this would be a simple upgrade, but it's not working out that way.

XP died (actually it got gorky and really sluggish) and since I have my 200g drive partitioned with only the OS (XP SP3) on the C Drive, I just reformatted that partition and re-installed XP. Got that stabilized and couldn't run MAMEWAH, so I re-downloaded the System Files and the latest MAMEWAH. I had been running 1.61, so I thought I would just install 1.63 and copy all of my old folders to my new MAMEWAH folder..................  Not so simple.
I was running out of time last night (it was almost 1am) and before I did something stupid, I thought I'd sleep on it and try it again tonite when I get home from work.

Can anyone explain to me how the folder structure changed and save me alot of work? (I think that's what happened, but as I said, I haven't dug into it yet). If it was only MAME, I go ahead and make the jump to MALA (I've been meaning to do it anyway and I've actually started), but I also have VPinball, Future Pinball, Sega, Atari, NES SNES, etc. and I'm not ready to invest all of that time yet.

Thanks!

I made a package with most emulators using Mamewah 1.6213b. (I didn't find a reason to upgrade to 1.63).
Info here http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=74982.0
Project page here: http://www.marcianitos.org/foro/showthread.php?t=10321

But basically the folder structure change a lot.  Here's what it looks like:

As you can see. Every emulator now has it's own folder inside the config folder. And all of the emulator's files are inside that folder. Mamewah>config>emulator>all its files.

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

docs/config.txt also has some bare bones documentation of the new locations for config files, ini, layouts, etc.

It hasn't been updated recently, but that will show you the big "changes" :)
