OMG I just got a DS as a gift -- I need this!  So what's the best way to run homebrew on this thing?
The R4DS?  Is there one that supports SDHC cards?

Look into gba slot adapters so you can use the normal sd cards though I'm not sure if mine supports HC.  Personally I use an M3 adapter and it runs fine.

Yeah there is a R4DS SDHC cartridge. It can theoretically support cards up to 32GB. I doubt you would need a card bigger than 2GB if you are just putting a few games/emulators on it as you can get over 50 DS games on a 2GB card. I would only get a bigger one if you want to have hundreds of games on it and/or music, movies etc.

I have a M3 card but I changed it to a R4DS by desoldering one of the jumpers and putting the R4DS firmware on it.

Word on the street is that the R4 team did not release the "R4DS SDHC" cards that you've been seeing on the market...  IMHO, 2 gigs is a hell of a lot of space though.  Certainly plenty enough for me.  If you really want more though, I'd do a bunch of research before buying any card that claims to support SDHC.

PS.
I've got an R4 and I love it!
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

Yeah I heard something about that too, I also heard alot of the earlier R4s were copies. The carts are not that complicated so I imagine they are easy to clone. I bought a SDHC 'R4DS' from Amazon (UK) for a friend for his daughters DS and it worked fine for me.

I've got Missile Command as part of the "Atari Classics". It plays pretty well with a stylus but just isn't the same without a trackball.
Wish list: Galaga, Pacman, Pooyan, Star Wars cockpit, Gauntlet, Tron

And the Lord spake, saying, 'First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then, shalt thou count to three. No more. No less. Three shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, nor either count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three.

Thanks for all the info.  I picked up a few 4GB microSDHC cards on woot.com for $6 each a couple weeks ago, so was hoping to use one of them.  I'm still trying to understand all this stuff.  Can someone explain how the slot2 cards like the EZFlash 3-in-1 work with the R4DS?  I know you need a slot 2 card for GBA stuff.  Sounds like the battery is non-replaceable though and once it dies you lose GBA game saves?  Is there a good easy tutorial on this stuff anywhere?  My google-fu must be weak.

I dont really know about the EZFlash 3-in-1 or other slot 2 devices but what ever you use should work with the R4DS. When you turn on the DS with the R4 card in it you get three options; Game, Slot 2 and Multimedia. Just select the Slot 2 option and it will boot that device.
