Does the arcadeVGA require a dual res monitor.

Because I've got a single res mon and it wont display anything except for the post info. if i go into the bios or try to boot windows it cant display them properly.

What game did it come with ? There are 15khz (Standard res) 25khz (Medium res) then the 31 khz (High res). It depends on the game you got. Look at the chassis and find the model number.

They are almost ALL 15khz monitors. The 31 Khz ones will almost certainly have a VGA plug in the back, and mid res monitors are nearly non-existant. Few games used them.

a lot of high production games used medium res monitors....nowhere near as many as standard res....but they are out there...

games that are medium res...
the nfl blitz series
virtua-anything
apb
paperboy
720
super sprint

just to name a few

Just try to find the model number of the monitor and post it...we can tell you if it is standard or medium res.

That was pretty much every title I could think of that used them also. But, really, you are more likely to end up with a vector monitor than a medium res one.

This might be a silly question, but do you have the monitor plugged into the proper HD-15 connector?

You want the inside one, just in case :)

You say that you can see the post information, correct?

If so, your monitor should be a 15khz type or you wouldn't even see that.

Is the BIOS on your system one of the goofy GUI types or standard text?  If it's a GUI type, it might be kicking the card into an incompatible mode (although this seems unlikely).

Have you tried booting into "safe mode"?  What happens then?

Just trying to see what you have tried....

I was having almost the same problem. Windows would load up and just before the desktop icons appared the system would hang. The only way I got around the problem was to go into BIOS and there was a setting
"int first display-PCI"
I changed it to
"int first display-AGP"
and no problems loading win98se after that.

short of replacing it was a standar resolution monitor?

You'll need to find a video  card that handles 25khz  and /or tweak software to make it output at 25khz...  (things aforementioned like powerstrip, Advance Mame... etc)

I have no idea if ArcadeVGA handles 25khz, but my gut/initial response is nope.. or not well... as it was designed to interface with 15khz and I don't think Andy just dropped in extra rezes that couldn't be used with a 15khz monitor for kicks...

*shrug* but i'm outa my league here... so...

carry on...
