Why is poutine not an option....

I prefer my fries AS poutine. (Then again poutine is a Maine thing (and sorta a canadian thing.. sometimes))

That's funny, I only learned what poutine is last Sunday. There's only one fries stand in Singapore and they sell poutine as a topping. As a Dutch guy I prefer my fries with mayonaise, peanut sauce and raw onions. We call it "patatje oorlog" or "war fries".

Problem is that it is never what it should be:

Cheese is no cheese. It's cheese analogue:
http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Analoogkaas
(Sorry, this topic is hot in the Netherlands right know, and someone has to translate it to english I guess)
http://www.europeanfoods.plc.uk/home.htm
Read the sentence: "Cheddar cheese analogue less than ½ price of cheddar."

And mayonnaise is no mayonnaise.

Mayonnaise is vegetable oil, egg-yellow and mustard, and nothing else, and should be 75% fat at least.
In Belgium the term Mayonnaise is law-enforced for good sauce, but here you mostly (99.9% chance) end up getting "Fritessaus" crap when you ask Mayonnaise. Fritessaus (25% fat) is served in a triple-size portion, so you get the same amount of fat as with real fries with mayonnaise, but you also get an incredible amount of indigestible emulsifier crap to keep the sauce not falling apart into a watery mess.

It's been a while, but we make our own cheese fries. Cut up the tater, season, bake, cover with cheddar and mozzarella, dip in ranch dressing. YUM!

I also like Sonic's Chili-Cheese fries.

Im gonna disagree on what Mayo is, I used to make my own, its eggwhites and vegetable oil, and a pinch of salt

I prefer my fries with mayo, or with cheese and BACON

unless Im at the beach, then its vinegar and salt for the win

Fries, possibly the cornerstone of my diet for the past 25 years. I prefer them with coarse salt and Heinz Ketchup. (Anything else is catsup and unacceptable)

The best restaurant fries by a landslide are the Cheese Fries at Outback Steakhouse. I can't stand any other food there, but their Cheese fries are the BOMB with that zesty ranch.

Hellllll no.  Ranch sucks.  You put gravy on potatoes, not creamy dressings.

Agreed. Ranch needs to stay on salads, and even then just a tiny bit on there. Ruins the whole healthy point of it...

As a Dutch guy I prefer my fries with mayonaise, peanut sauce and raw onions. We call it "patatje oorlog" or "war fries".

That's my favorite too. Like in the picture, without the onions, though. Then it's called "patatje flip".

Really? I never tried Joppiesaus. The name just sounds awful (like that guy from the Bus). But then if a newspaper celebrity like yourself is endorsing it then I guess I should try it sometime.  :P

Sadly, the bluenose is no more. The ferry run is operated by an Aussie/Bay ferries corperation using The Cat. The trip from Bar Harbor to Yarmouth is now so short, it isnt even worth visiting the on board casino!
