Any way to duplicate/rename 'snaps' pictures??
« on: June 09, 2003, 10:19:42 am »
Hi all,

I have been collecting ROM's for some time now, and am about to begin work on my cabinet.  I am happy to say that I have ALL of the ROMs (and .chd's) for version .69, and most of the artwork as well (snaps, cabinets, flyers, etc..)

My problem is that I am thinking of using myHTPC  (www.myhtpc.net) for my frontend, and am running into a bit of a snag.  When I run MAME32, it shows that I have all of ths 'snaps' for all of the games, but when I run myHTPC (or gamelauncher as well), a LOT of the 'snaps' are missing.  I have figured out that there might only be one 'snap' for several games.  As an example, the snap called '1942.png' may be used for 1942, 1942 (Japan), 1942 (World), 1942 Super Special Edition (you get the point....)

SO.....I guess what I am asking is:
is there any shortcut or software that knows this fact, and can 'generate' the correct .png files I need.  For example, the software would know to take '1942.png' and copy it 5 times, renaming it '1942j.png', '1942w.png', '1942sse.png'  and so on.

Is there such a software?  Is anybody else have this problem??  Is there a source out there to download ALL of the properly named .png's in a reasonable amount of work??

Please help,
Thanks,
Fat Johnny

Well most MAME FE's 'try hard' to show an image, so if no image for a cloned game exists, it checks it's parent for the image.  I don't know much about myHTPC but I think it is not a dedicated MAME FE, so doesn't work like this.

I am not sure the best way to get an image for every ROM...I think you could use ClrMAMEPro to at least tell you what images you are missing, you could then copy/rename the missing images yourself (spare time required!).

Read down some of the topics in the Software forum - some of the renaming snap ones may be of interest to you (although not neccessarily what you need)...

Dunno if this is what your looking for, but

use the copy command. Ex. Copy 1942.png 1942sse.png

Or run the game and hit F12 to take snapshots.

this site has snapshot downloads that include a lot of the clone games.
