Solved - Windows loading delay screen

Ever since I cloned the disk and removed it in this one computer (upgrade to a larger disk), after the bios screens, I get a screen that asks me which Windows installation I want to load. There are two choices, of the same: Windows (default). Of course, if I let it time out, Windows automatically loads, but I'd like to remove this step and can't find anything in the bios that affects it. Does anyone know what's going on here?

The easiest way is to right click on "My Computer"> Advanced> Startup and Recovery> Settings> And uncheck "Time to Display List of Operating Systems".

Or you can remove one of the cloned operating systems by hit START>RUN and type 'msconfig' (without the quotes)
Then choose BOOT.INI and erase the annoying OS.

This didn't work. And what system are you talking about that 'my computer' leads there? 98 maybe? I guess I should've specified the OS is XP Pro.

Well, of course when I do this, nothing appears. If I type 'cmd', the box does appear. Is there another way to reach the config box?

On your desktop there should be an icon that's named "My Computer" or on your Start menu.

When you right click on My Computer you have to select Properties first then Advanced tab.

You could just goto your C:\ and open up boot.ini.

Make sure in explorer, tools, folder options, view Hide protected operations system files is unchecked

Also make sure hide extension for file type is also unchecked and show hidden files and folders is enabled.

Oh. I usually go through Control Panel>system>advanced>  - which I did and the setting unchecked didn't fix the issue.

I'm back on this and confirm the following:

1. time to display operating systems is unchecked and still two show up

2. that the 'system configuration utility' window does not show up when running 'msconfig'.


I'm not sure what to change in the boot.ini (via Bent98's suggested course).

Update: I looked in the boot.ini (as suggested by Bent98), and found that below [operating systems] there was no entry. Hmmm. So I looked on another XP Pro computer's ini and copied the part below that section, and now it boots just like the other one does - noguiboot, etc. Also, msconfig brings up the system configuration utility. So all's good now.
