That's MameWah and noone should be selling it. Can you post a link to the auction?

Interesting, it's from the UK where Minwah is.
Maybe he should go pay a visit to the guy.

I have been a long time retro fan and keep going back to mame (and other emulators) in between playing PC games. I only recently found this forum and got bit by the "lets build me a cab" idea, one which surprisingly my wife isn't against :)

However hein lies the quandry with these ebayers.

I can be called somewhat of a hardcore gamer and as such i have top spec PC's, top spec accesories and most importantly for online play the BEST gaming isp in the UK, the lowest pings and the best routing possible. The downside of this is that bandwidth costs (£1 / gig to be exact) so lets see the math.

7 dvd's = 31.5gig

Cost for me to download myself £32

Cost to buy off ebay = £18

Saving me directly £14

For me this ebayer is offering me a service. However, what he is doing is illegal so should i get  on the moral high ground and not take up these kinds of offers or save £14 and put that money back into the retro community?

I think your missing the point.. See there are TONS of romburning services.. The thing here is that he isnot only providing emulators with the roms (a big no no) but also a Frontend...  He makes it very clear that including this FE is value added and it probably helps drive the sales on his auctions. However the creator of the FE see's nothing of a $.
Thats the issue...
How would youlike to see someone selling your free product and making $ on it when you aren't?

I beleive strongly in supporting free apps and have many times in the past donated monies when the option is available and the product worthy.

If you read my post i did ask, should i point blank refuse these kinds of offers or take them and give the money saved to the community. I see mamewah does indeed have a donate button and if that was my chosen frontend (atm its looking like that or hyperspin) i WOULD donate REGARDLESS of where i aquired the software.

I have not bought any of these bundle offers i was merely showing the quandry that exists for some people over these kinds of things.

It's cool.  Some people are not aware of all the options out there.. Some are.
The choice is yours.. Id recommend a burning service that is very inexpensive but I believe id be breaking the rules here.

I was just adding my 2 cents.. I wasn't attacking you.. Sorry if it came off that way.

I think this is how he's getting around the Ebay rules. Quote from his auction.

"I WOULD ALSO LIKE YOU TO NOTE THESE ROMS ARE FREE TO DOWNLOAD ON THE INTERNET YOU ARE PAYING FOR SERVICE OF CONFIGURATION  OF THE FRONTEND AND COST OF DISKS AND POSTING  I AM NOT CHARGING YOU FOR THE ROMS OR ANY SOFTWARE CONTAINED ON THESSE DISKS"

hehe. But still he wrong.

The link to the service is not really allowered by boyac rules, so that link should been removed (but not thread itself) again.

I do pretty sure it was not direcy for piracy this time.....

O.o

 :dizzy:

What kind of crappy service or crappy place do you live in that they feel that One Gig of data traffic is worth 2 Bucks?!!!! The only way I could see that level of charging would be if it was a "free" service where you get the connect for free and then pay for useage...

(I could see them charging you 10p for a GIG, but a whole quid!!!!????)
--- Yes I AM doing this on purpose, and yes I DO realize it is pissing you off.

Oh, you started a thread about software for sale, so i assumed you did pay for software. Also, if you have ever paid for a computer, and didn't build it yourself then you have paid for software.

In UK you have 2 options

1. Pay next to nothing for ISP and be sold it as "unlimited" where what they mean by "unlimited" is throttled ports, a fair usage policy that is so vague they can cut anyone off at anytime and horendous pings/routing because of contention ratio's.

2. Pay more for the ISP and have a fixed bandwidth limit that you pay for exceeding. This is NOT throttled, no crappy fair usage policy and an insane contention ratio giving better and more stable connection.

My next door neighbour is on AOL (rebadged as carphone warehouse) he gets 2 meg conection and "unlimited" downloads. They say in the area he lives 2meg is the most he can get. He comes round here at least twice a week to use my net coz his is "down" and when he rings up he is told its a fault on the exchange and out of their control. Now i get 8 meg (notice that someone 10 metres away is told 2meg is max which is obvious rubbish) and a connection that gives the most stable and lowest pings anywhere and my router last dropped connection christmas 2004.

£1 / gig is pretty much the going rate on any half decent UK isp. Here you get what you pay for.
