What is the correct size spade bit I should be using for electric ice buttons from ggg?

And what do you guys recommend for cutting the holes, spade or hole saws?

Would your recommendations be different if I was cutting plexi?

Electric Ice buttons are standard size pushbuttons.  See the Control Panel Hole Sizes Thread for more info.

To answer the other part of your question, I'd use a foerstner bit to cut the holes in the MDF or wood control panel.  Then I'd use a router and flush cutting bit to cut the plexiglass to size.  You will need to drill pilot holes int he plexiglass for the buttons to get the router bit in there.

You can also use the spade bit to copy the holes in plexi. To do this, drill a hole 1-2 mm wider than the widest part of the spade centering point in the centre of the hole. Otherwise the hole in the MDF cannot guide the spade bit very well. Even easier is to drill the holes in the plexi first with a 28mm bit, and then use a 30mm bit for the MDF. Than it always fits. The button screws can easily cover holes up to 32-34mm.
