Monitor trouble: H. Hold keeps needing readjusted
« on: June 24, 2008, 10:50:58 pm »
For the past couple of days I've had a problem with my Billabs BL25C90T monitor. Whenever I use my MAME cab after having been shut off, the horizontal hold on my monitor is off and needs to be reset, the image appears to be shifted to the left a bit on the desktop/MaLa.

When I start a game it works for a while, but then suddenly the hold gets way off and the screen becomes unviewable until the H. Hold is reset.

The monitor never changes resolutions, its always at 640 x 480, and the first week or so I used it I never had this problem.

Bare in mind this may not pertain to you as I don't run mame at all...only arcade pcbs...
that being said, I have a monitor that, upon initial startup does not have proper v.hold(that is to say it rolls from top to bottom)...after it warms up, however, the v.hold locks in and everything is fine from then on. On the other side of that, if you re-adjust the v.hold when you first turn it on to make it stop rolling, then after it warms up it will start rolling because you readjusted it to begin with....
so I guess what I'm getting at is have you let it sit a while without readjusting to see if it corrects itself after a few minutes?
Like I said may not pertain to you but just in case thought I'd throw it in for you to try.

change your settings to hwstretch 1 and switchres 0 for that game and see if it still scrolls.

because you ARE changing the resolution settings every time you play a different game.  Some resolutions are going to have sync issues with some monitors and your monitor may not be able to sync and hold on every mode.

That's the settings I do use.

I think gokun had it right, it warms up and gets better.

I remember I had a rear projection HDTV that did the same thing with convergence.

Yep I had an arcade monitor that did this too.  In general, don't adjust the monitor when it's cold because you'll have to adjust it again when it warms up.

So what did Billabs have to say about the problem???

Probably nothing.... Oh well.

Perhaps yournext will be one of mine??

Just in front of the flyback, mounted on the heatsink, there is a small board, with 1 control on it, This is the 31Khz HHold sub-control, start off with it in mechanical center.

Good Luck
