Twin Galaxies High Scores
« on: May 11, 2008, 03:24:37 pm »
I was wondering if anybody posts their high scores with Twin Galaxies.  Just curious who has a monster high score out there.  ;D

I have 4 MAME scores in there.
Xevious - 163,770  #2
Galaga '88 - 233,470  #9
Timber - 76,165  #4  (but I have one at 138k that I haven't turned in yet, maybe this week)
Missile Command - 25,025  #8

Chasing scores has gotten me interested in playing the games a lot more. I started playing my pins a lot more than the vids but this has challenged me to come back to MAME for a while.
I've got a fever...

Wow, some of the MAME scores are low. I looked based on Cowbells Xevious comment. I don't think the highest MAME score would even break into the saved top 10 on my cab. The arcade versions of Xevious are the kind of sick scores I expected, though the numbers really fall off after the top 4.

Hmmm, looks like I need to submit a Toobin inp which would get me first place!  I am 2nd place on MARP.  :banghead:

The arcade high score is pretty pathetic too.  Not much interest in that game I guess.

How do you submit scores?

Do you have to video tape them? Like on the KING OF KONG?

Or will a snapshot of the screen do?

Also do you get a Championship Certificate or something ?

I think you have to use wolfmame .106 .   As for Xevious, I could make a run for that. I wonder why the disparity between arcade and mame scores? I don't think for some games it would make a difference for me. I played a Gyruss some time back and instead of being harder it was a little easier - though it did feel a slight different. I see Mruczek has low scores in both formats. Don't know him but have seen the name enough to come to assume he's an arcade game god and am surprised he entered the scores.

Isn't Mruczek the guy that was a TG referee, who reviewed all the tapes in King of Kong?  It's yet another one of those things about the place that gives me a funny feeling.  People with world records probably shouldn't be the judges of other world record attempts.  That seems like a conflict of interest.

Personally, I've always wanted to go for the high score on Mat Mania.  I've gotten halfway to the current record, and I think if I had the time and the right frame of mind for the monotony of it I could break it.

Yeah, use WolfMAME .106. You just record the game using a click, zip up the resulting files, and submit through the website. The recorded files are really cool. You can play them back in WolfMAME and see everything just like it's happening right then and there. Be sure to check the website first to make sure you have the game set on the correct settings/dips. Xevious is supposed to be set on hard, flags, extra ships, etc. I just submitted my new Timber score which will put me at #2. No certificate or anything, just the warm feeling of accomplishment when you see your name on that list.  :applaud:

I was just wondering?

My wife has almost a million points on MAHKI on our Midway Touchmaster 7000.

I was just wondering if that could be submitted?

It is a Video Game.

I don't think TG keeps track of those games.  I couldn't find Touch Master or Mahki in their database.  Also, to get on their scoreboard you have to submit your whole performance from beginning to end, either on video if it's a real arcade game or with an INP file from WolfMAME if it's an emulated game.  You can also have an official TG referee watch your performance as well in person, but that's not usually practical for most folks.

Yes, you can WATCH your playback - but you can't hear it. A recent thread at MW details why. I assumed Xevious would be default settings. I'll have to look. Man, last night I was playing it and got the first two flags easy, then died around a hundred thousand and it was not great from there. I still came in at 200k, but jee-whiz.

I would think high-scorers would be good judges in that they know what it takes to get one. Better if they're a champ at the game in question. The only problem I could see coming is if they happen to be buddies with whomever in the community has the current high score or has been trying for one and favors them.

I've been having trouble viewing the inputs, unless it's my own recording.  TG's site allows you to download the newer input scores and there is a lot I'd like to learn by watching others play, but when I try to play their downloaded inputs they never work.  I'm still looking for a game that I can take the top spot on!  ;D

You usually need the exact same version of MAME for playback as they used in the recordings.  You should also delete any nvram or hi score files as those affect the 'randomness' in some games.

It's going to be a tough one for me - my favorite game is Robotron. I thought I was pretty good with my high score of 525,000, until I checked what the top score was for fun. However, I usually play awesome on two or three guys, the rest I make stupid mistakes. Now I've just got to get rid of the mistakes. I think I can at least break into the top ten, maybe better someday...

Robotron is tough because of the settings you have to use... 5 guys to start and no extra lives.
I can score around the same as you, but is on the default Robotron settings with an extra guy every 25k. Thats like an extra 20 guys I'm using to get to the same scores as their top 10 with tournament settings.

There were different cabs with different roms. Red/yellow apparently is considered the parent and harder. I think the stock settings are 3 guys and extra at every 25k. I've gotten over a million once or twice on this one, and over 800k the other night, but from what I've seen of some posters here, a million is just starting. Obviously, they're using some 'tournament' settings here, concocted by whom I wonder?

Hm. That's a logical conclusion being that they're all or mostly champs. It would figure they would work out what would really define a champion. So how come there's still a debate on DK? In the event they scoff at using the new code that fixes the kill screen, why not just make it 'one dude, get as far as you can'?

Super Punch-Out is correct (1,118,050 points). That's the only official record I have. My personal best score on Ikari Warriors (1,487,400 points) beats the TG record by ~75,000 points, but I haven't recorded an attempt on that machine yet.

Can someone clarify something for me (because TG's FAQs don't answer it): Are "Tournament Settings" only doable during a Funspot Tournament, or can it be the standard video taped submission done on your own?? (I'm just shocked there's no entry for Juno First, something I'll be capturing one day)

I had the high score on Sky Soldiers mame and someone over took it so I'm in second. I already have beat his score again, but I want to get a really big one to submit. For that I think I need to get my cab back in working order, so it might be awhile.

I'm also currently in 5th for Super Pacman.

I scored 163k on Mario Bros and haven't submitted yet but it would be 11th. Pretty sure I can beat that...I have a few more long shots...

I'm officially #1 on the Timber MAME marathon setting (374k). I don't know how someone got over a million on the tournament setting. It gets impossibly hard to complete around screen 18. Need to find another game to shoot for the high score on. Thinking of 1941.

One day soon I'll be going for TG track n Field and Hyper Sports #1 now I have both games.

I have beaten both in MAME (although I did get accused of using autofire in Track n Field when I hit 2nd place in MARP after about 8 months work :banghead: .. I didn't use autofire at all but don't care as I KNOW what score I got :P)

Track n Field is tough to get, because you have to be really the best as can be in all events to hit the 95k+. Currently have 93200 on my cab. Screwed up High Jump at 2.48.

Hyper Sports is too easy as the current record of 531k allowed the use of NVRAM - which equates to a free 100k or so points extra in rounds 1 and 2. Best MAME score of mine is still top at MARP with no NV. Although is MARP kaputt? I can't hit it anymore. Anyway I got 450k~ without NV so 550 is easy. I guess pretty much everyone fails at 9.80 Long horse.

Cheers for now..
