The other problem that was driving me crazy was the swivel mechanism and the magnets. After all of the work I did, the problem hit hit me the other day like a ton of brick. When one uses the touchscreen the pressure of the touch makes the top move back and forth. The magnets are installed in a way the prohibits them from actually making contact with the steel discs. I wanted it to be smooth but the downside is that they don't hold very tight this way. It was very sloppy to say the least.

The fix turned out to be very easy. The lazy susan swivel is basically two stamped pieces of steel with a row of bearings all the way around. One is folded over the other with a slight gap to keep the friction down. I dug out my old aviation rivet squeeze and crimped the the two pieces tighter together.

It took forever to get it right because if I crimped it too much the swivel would be ruined. Good thing the tool is adjustable. I had to crimp it a little all the way around and then assemble everything to test. It took 4 attempts to get it right. Now the top stays put when touched but swivels nice and still has noticeable stopping points every 30 degrees.

If you get a chance can you go into more detail on how you set up the magnets and fixed the lazy susan so that they remain in a fixed position when pressing against the touch screen.

I am looking at building a custom bar top project with a touch screen and wanted it to be able to swivel around but be able to lock into position. I love the idea of magnets and the lazy susan but was not sure how you finally got it to work.

Is the combination of magnets and crimping the lazy susan to tighten up the rotation the trick?

I found it locally at a specialty woodworking store called Woodwerks

I used what they call "1/8" hardboard" at Home Depot and it worked just fine. CHECK IT OUT.

Very nice looking juke Mountain! You did a great job. I have been watching this thread for some time now. And, the others you have inspired with your design look great as well.

Did you get your mounting bracket, power pushbutton switch, and USB plug from an old PC case or did you purchase them from somewhere? I have searched all over the forum/internet and either I am not searching for the right things or they just aren't out there to be found (at least by me hahaha).

I'm getting ready to start a jukebox project(my own design) and I want to find the items that I need to order so that they are on their way while I work.

I may have missed it due to the sheer number of posts here, but what was the total project cost? I'm looking to build a similar shape now I know it can be done but I know it won't be to anywhere near the standard of this. I'm thinking of doing a much simpler design with no swivel base and simply internal speakers.

How much did you stretch to for this bad boy?

If memory serves me correct, the electronics ran about $450-$550. The laminate, wood, plexi. and misc. Hardware was another $150-$300.

I have kicked around the idea of producing "Mountain Jukebox" kits for sale. This would be for people who would enjoy one of these but were not willing to invest the time and labor into figuring out all of the cuts on their own. These would be made by me and could range from a simple flat pack of wood all the way to a working unit.

What do you guys think, would they sell?

Yes. Assembly would have to be worked out beforehand with guides to line everything up but I think people would by a kit to get started. Would have saved me a lot of time!

I am working on this now. The trick will be to make it affordable enough for someone to justify the time it would save while making it worth my while. I think in the beginning the best way to approach it would be to make a kit available that had the front and back templates, 2 pieces of 1/8" MDF (cut to size) a bank front piece for the monitor (with the marquee area cut out), pre-cut marquee Plexiglas, the bottom, and internal mounts for the HD, Mini ITX Mitherboard etc. + instructions.

I think a completed shell with finish options would be wanted as well but the pricing needs to be worked out on both.

Any ideas??

Pricing in this instance should take into consideration all the time that is saved by using a kit. The materials probably aren't that expensive ($50 or less for the MDF and plexiglass) but I know from personal experience that working 3 hours a night for 6 weeks straight is barely enough time to make the shell. I guess it depends on your skill set in the shop but people ordering the kits would be on the little to no experience side of things. There are plenty of times when I would have gladly handed out $200+ just to be done with it out of frustration.

Yes, the kits would have to be CNC cut, at least the MDF. I am working on how all of that will unfold right now.

After making one of these things (and yes, its still not quite done) a good spot to start building one of these would be the front plexi, the front and back panel and the MDF for the front and back frame. Add in a support structure that can go in the middle (like McCoy has on his), but with a place for a dowel to hold the front to the back. In fact, after looking at what McCoy did with his CNC, I think that would be a great place to start. Hell, just having the front panel and front plexi would save people 10's of hours.

The only downside to making a kit would be having the front panel 'routered' for the monitor mounting. that to me was the hardest part, yet not all screens would mount the same, I assume.

Maybe that would be part of the kit that you would work out with mountain.kit includes monitor,man i would have got the kit in a second and for anyone wanting to biuld one its by far not easy all the tools and the right bits on and on its been two weeks and i still have alot to go.

Hey Mountain, I would pay $300 for a complete kit. I have a 15" ELO in the closet waiting for a jukebox.

Also, where did you get that power button on the back? Does it light up?

In one pick it looks like at first you used just a regular arcade button, but in the finished pics it is a shiny metal start button with power logo. I bought one of those bulgin vandal resitant buttons that light up, but it does not have power logo on it.
