Monitor issues. 21" Trinitron CRT
« on: April 27, 2008, 02:14:52 pm »
I just got this trinitron for free from a customer of mine for my mame cab and it is really dim. The brightness is turned all the way up already is there anything i can do or do i just pitch it. My flame suit is on by the way.

Turn down brightness, and turn up contrast.  Despite the naming, brightness is not actually brightness.  Brightness is the black level.  Contrast is the white level.  Turning up contrast will make white spots brighter, and turning down brightness will make blacks darker.

If things are still really dim, then chances are the issues are not correctable from the user adjustments alone.  Given the likley age, it is possible that the tube itself is simply weak, depending on how much it got used.  Try adjusting brightness/contrast correctly first, then, if that doesn't help, other things can be tried before you throw it out.

That didnt work. It looks a little better tho. I think we are on to something. The colors seem really washed out though. Especially red

Define "washed out" further, please.  Are these "washed out" colors just still dim, or are they showing up where they shouldn't be?  If you can get a picture of a known test screen, like a cross-hatch, that would be very useful.  Also, any info you have on model #s.

sony computer monitors had grid resistors ( 10M ) that caused some problems.
if that is the issue here , pic will vanish when g1 touched by dmm.
of course, crt could be weak .......

model number ??
