Mamewah exit upon Video load after exiting a game?
« on: April 08, 2008, 12:12:37 am »
This is really weird, as I didnt have this problem before, and I dont know of anything that I have changed on my PC that would affect this.

But now when I load any game, for any emulator in mamewah, upon exit, once the video preview loads, mamewah exits.

It works just fine when selecting the first game, I can load up any number of movies and see the previews, change systems, see other previews, the works.  But load up a game, and then exit, once the movie loads I crash to the desktop.

I dont get any error message, its just as if I hit escape.  I changed the delay to load movies to make sure that it was the cause, and it was.  If I have the delay at 2, I crash 2 seconds after exiting a game, put it to 6, and I crash after 6 seconds.

Has anyone encountered this?  The only things I know I have changed from the last time I booted mamewah perfectly are using the ASAD program (not touching my videos directory with it though), getting my wireless card to work, and taking down the clock speed of my processor as I was getting errors when overclocking.

Heres my log, nothing odd at the end that I see, video delay is set to 6..

1) Do your movies play OK in Media Player (assume so but just checking)?
2) Are you using v1.62 final? If not, give it a try.

As you say it doesn't look like it is crashing, for some reason it is exiting cleanly. Perhaps try temporarily remapping your exit button to something else.

Although I just spotted this:

4/7/2008 11:19:55 PM Error: 5 Invalid procedure call or argument in MsgExecCmd

I'm not sure what the problem there is but presumably has something to do with running this:

C:\Emulators\Utils and Frontends\xpadder\xpadder.exe mamep1 mamep2 /m

I don't know what 'xpadder' is but is it being launched properly?

Movies play fine in Media player, they also all play fine when I first load up mamewah and before I select a game.

Xpadder is a joystick mapper, Ill check to see if its working, but you know, CPV2 isnt working anymore either I just realized, I have no idea why not... This is really messed up.

Everything was working perfectly a week ago...

Ok some more info:

Neither of my pre-app commands are working, Xpadder is not loading correctly, nor am I seeing any output from CPV2.  Again both used to work just fine, so I know they are set up correctly.

If I remove Xpadder from the ini, the weird exit behavior disappears, so something there is the culprit.  However, it may just be indicitive of a bigger issue on my compter, since even with the xpadder line removed, CPV2 still does not load as it should.

I copied and pasted the CPV2 command from the log file into a command prompt, and it works like its supposed to.  When I run xpadder not from mamewah, it works just like its supposed to.

Is my computer just breaking down here?  Theres no real reason why this stuff should just stop working.

Further development, I can leave the xpadder call in there, and it works like normal if I remove the {nowait} flag.  Mamewah no longer exits out under these conditions.

However, both Xpadder and CPV2 are still not actually loading, although the commands are assuredly correct, and they run outside of mamewah.

Ugh... log file below, going to qbert twice without crashing this time...

This is pretty wierd, and I can't really explain what is happening. In the vague hope that you leave your machine on all the time, have you tried restarting it?

Unfortunately no, I leave it off most of the time.

I really think this isnt a mamewah issue, but a computer issue.  As I said, this all worked flawlessly not very long ago. I had my PC overclocked for a time, until it had problems booting, and I clocked it back down, so I wonder if my hardware may be dying...

As long as my harddrive is ok it wouldnt be that big of a deal I suppose, and would give me an excuse to bump up to a Core 2 Duo.

The only thing that bugs me though, is that I dont know why only this would happen.  It seems to me if my processor was on the fritz, the effects would be far more reaching than what I am seeing?  I just dont know.

Maybe I need to try using that computer for some more extensive activities and see if I notice any other bad behavior.  It just seems odd that only a PART of mamewah seems to be not working now, and everything else works ok, changing lists, building lists, launching games, playing games, videos, etc...

Ugh.

I appreciate the help Minwah, maybe I should repost without Mamewah in the title to try and garner some more input  =D

In all honesty I do not know if damaged hardware could cause this...it does seem odd to me that everything else works ok.

I don't know what to suggest really other than giving your PC a thorough test - maybe there is some diagnostic software available?

Man its like freaking impossible to find a socket A processor locally.  I have 3 other desktops at the house, maybe one of them is also running a Socket A, I know at least two are AMDs.

Ill try swapping out the processor if I can find a replacement and try trouble shooting the hardware.

I should definately have spare ram to try swapping out.

I suppose I should also do some sort of hard drive integrity check, but the HDD is the newest part, and I dont think its at fault.  If it were, then CPV and Xpadder shouldnt work no matter where they were launched from.

Weeeeee...... troubleshooting is fun!   ;D

Ok, I dont have a spare processor.  So I downloaded a stress test and ran it for 15 minutes.  Everything came out fine.

I downloaded Mala, set it up for Mame, and set it up to use CPV2.  And I got an error 193, CPV2 failed to load.  Im pretty sure my syntax was correct, and even tried to pass it a static argument instead of the variable one.  This made me think theres a problem with the disk maybe, that the stress test would have missed.

I ran a disk check, and everything came out fine.  Am trying to defrag my harddrive now...

While that is going, I copied several emulators, xpadder, cpv2 and mamewah from my arcade machine, to this laptop, using the same directory structure.  Once everything was copied I fired up mamewah, and everything worked how it was supposed to.

CPV2 loaded up, xpadder loaded, and upon exiting the game, everything worked like it was supposed to.

That has to mean its my hardware on my arcade computer right?   :banghead: :banghead:

All that's left is reinstalling your O.S.
