Doomsday
« on: March 17, 2008, 07:38:15 pm »
There is one word that describes this mess of a movie: SUCKED

Is there NO ORIGINAL THOUGHT in Hollywood at ALL?  And the acting...my god,  I've not seen worse acting since Dragon Wars,  which was a complete pile of ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---.

On a rating of 1-10,  10 being best...this crap gets a 4.  While I didn't quite feel the urge to go demand not only my money back but my time as well,  the movie still scored quite high in the "Suctor Scale"...

You're the reason that movies like this keep getting the green light.  Read a review once in a while for crying-out-loud.

Rotten Tomatoes is your friend.  Never see a movie without it:

im sure frizzle would hate to be compared to me, but what he is doing is 'thinking for himself'. you can read a hundred reviews, all of them saying the same thing but you still may have a completely contrary experience of the film. ive sometimes been pleasantly surprised when ive seen a movie that didnt rate highly, but i went and saw it anyway...

I used to use IGN to get my movie reviews. If anyone else does that, then heed this advice: Don't trust a single Todd Gilchrist review. He is a total ---smurfing--- idiot, and gives glowing reviews to suckfests. Why he is employed there still, I don't know.
Once upon a time, I read a review there for Jeepers Creepers. He convinced me to go see it with his glowing review as to how it was the best horror movie to come out in years. That movie was a piece of ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- as you all know.

Uh,  genius,  I did...and it received a "B" on Fandango from the users and many "A" grades from reviewers....movies.com gave it an "A" with a critics average of "C+" and readers average of "B".

Did you see the trailers before you went to see it?  Even those looked bad...  like a cross between Mad Max and Escape from New York (and I liked both those movies).

Ah yes, movies.com.  That site gave Dragon Wars a 'B' (fans' and critics' grades were both lower, btw).  Here's what you thought about Dragon Wars:

My god was DRAGON WARS the biggest piece of crap movie I've seen in YEARS...that is right YEARS.  The acting was laughably bad...the plot was horrible...everything about this movie except for the cool dragon CGI sucked MAJOR ass...

To movies.com's credit, they did give The Hottie and The Nottie an 'F'  (granted, I have not seen that movie but, as with Doomsday, I trusted my instinct and stayed away).  However, given the fact that you have a history of being diametrically opposed to their opinions, you might want to check it out.

Saw the trailer...looked like exactly what you said...a cross between Max Max and Escape from NY... and I too liked both of those.  I guess the movie wasn't TERRIBLE...but it certainly would be a far stretch to call it "good".  It didn't quite reach "entertaining".

That's what's so great about Rotten Tomatoes.  They don't review anything.  That's what make their ratings so reliable.  I am rarely surprised by a movie anymore.  And once you become a longtime reader you will learn to read between the lines.  Rotten Tomatoes features a one-sentence quote from each of the reviews counted, which can be clicked on if you want to read the full review.  A lot of times I'll be reading what the critics have to say about a movie and it's the quoted lines from the bad reviews that make me absolutely sure that I will love the movie.  And on the flip side, I'll be sometimes be reading the quotes from the good reviews thinking to myself, "Yeah . . . this is coming from a moron.  This movie is going to suck."

It's such a great site.

I heard Mr. Movie Phone.  He said that Doomsday didn't have an early review for critics so there wouldn't be any bad press before the movie.

All the critics that have seen the show had to pay for it or have their employer pay for it, so in reality, reading the reviews for this movie is in a way contributing to it.

Mr. Movie Phone said that 10,000 B.C. stank, but at least the people that created it thought it was good enough to review.  The people behind Doomsday didn’t even want it to be reviewed.

Checked the trailer. This looks like "Mad Max" meets "28 Weeks later".

I thought it looked like Escape From New York and Madd Max.
