Game Ex
« on: March 07, 2008, 04:19:49 pm »
I am not sure if I am doing something wrong or if it is Game Ex.

I start Game Ex and it gives me the nag screen.
I push either 1 or 2 and the nag screen goes away, I get a web page and Game Ex closes.
The first night I downloaded it, it worked great, even the nag screen, and I loved it.
now (4 days later) I still cannot get back to playing games on Game Ex.

help please

Sammie

Don't press any key when the nag screen comes up. Your supposed to wait until it finishes it's count down. If you press a key it will open the web page and close GameEx.

You could donate also to remove the NAG. Yes it sucks but its worth it.
Gameex does do competitions to give away free licences.  Also if your an active contributing member I'm sure we can get you one as well.

I have tried the other FE's

I like GameEX the best so far.

with my level of ability to configure them this is the best so far.

Maybe when I get better at it I will like one of the others better.

I do not have a problem paying for something that is worth it and this (so far) seems to be worth the price.

It seems like it's going around. MameWorld with TheGuru, twice now. Here, also twice...

How long does the nag screen usually last?? Is this unique to Gameex?

All the other players are fully functional and free - check the wiki to see your options:

AtomicFE, Mala and Mamewah seem to be very popular.

One cool thing is that you can try them all, at the same time to compare. Just point all of them to the same roms and emulator: they won't conflict with each other.

ok another question,

some games in GAME EX show the control buttons.
some games do not so the control buttons.

Since I have found the controls for the games that do not show the control buttons, how do I add them to GAME EX so others that have not played before will know which buttons to use?

GameEx uses controls.ini to display the controls for a game. So you could edit that. Another option is a CP viewer like CPWizard. With that you can run it in the background or generate bezels for Mame which will overlay your CP inside Mame. Applying the bezel patch available on the website along with exporting bezels means you can show your CP inside mame by pressing pause.

The benefit of using CPWizard is it supports more games and has more accurate label mapping. From my experience GameEx doesn't do recursive searches in controls.ini so it misses some games.
