25" Pentranic model 1125 differet shades of black strips?
« on: January 24, 2008, 08:53:21 pm »
Hey everybody. Yes, I have another monitor problem. Luckily, this one isn't crippling.

I have a Pentranic monitor (Model 1125) that was manufactured in August of 97, and I have noticed that there are strips of varying shades of black/gray running vertically with one jet black streak going down the left side. These streaks/strips only appear on black screens; color works and looks great. Ive messed with the adjustments a good amount, and the only way to not see the strips is to turn the brightness way low.

I wouldn't think that the monitor is old enough for the caps to go bad, but it wouldn't surprise me. What would should I look for?

BTW, Remember to beware the "unbeatable?" pterodactyl...

I believe that those are jailbars and that they are typically cause by bad caps.  I would do a cap kit on it.  There are other monitors (like the Polo) that go through caps fast, so it's not unheard of.

it is indeed "jailbars" . the most common failure is of the rgb boost cap . typically 10uF @ 250v.
that failure may include a dark pic left, ranging to bright w/retrace on right.
in this instance , there may well be a faulty cap on a flyback secondary ( scan derived supply )
likely on a 15v source .....

So should I do an entire cap kit, or should I just do the one? I guess while I have it off and discharged I should do them all, but I'm not sure...

depends on the chassis but usually find that cap on the neck card, others you find near the flyback transformer
