TinyXP on laptop?
« on: January 21, 2008, 04:49:27 am »
I'm interested in using TinyXP on a bartop project using an old IBM Thinkpad 240. Everything about the TinyXP software looks great... except for one thing. I read that TinyXP is not suitable for laptops because there is no built in hardware support for laptop batteries. However I have no plans to use the rechargeable battery at all. I will be running the bartop from mains power at all times. Does this make any difference?

Seems a shame if TinyXP cannot be used on old lappies because these old machnes would benefit greatly from it.  :dunno

I just want to run vertical classics through MaLa with a U360 and two buttons. I hear that you get various options on installing TinyXP with/without drivers and IE etc. Sounds like just what I need really. :)

I've just started using TinyXP and think it's cool. Not sure about laptop use but the only problem I found is even when I install graphics drivers, it will not allow me to display any larger than 640x480. I only want to go to 800x600 for a bit of smoothness but it doesn't want to play.

I have TinyXP running on an old laptop and it works great.
My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite 2805-S202 with only 128MB or RAM (PIII @ 698 Mhz)

Performance with MAME is outstanding.
Even for more complex games likes Alien vs. Predator, etc.

Which TinyXP? I run Beast and Platinumon a 1.8ghz celeron toshiba and both work well. Platinum is a lot heavier but provides more resources out of the boxand includes DHCP so you actually get the IP assigned which allows P2P to run faster.

Well if you need Internet use TinyXP version 2,
If not and you just want to use it as a Gamebox
use TinyXP Version 1.

Myself I use TinyXP 1 on my laptop.
Think I might have 3-4 processes running in
background needless to say ....its really fast!
I take care of all my internet needs on my Non-Gaming system.

Also make sure if you use a (TinyXP)
make sure it was put together by experience
a lot of others claim to be tinyxp but where put together
by someone else.

Alternatively you could also do it yourself:

Hope that helps...
