Help with my Jamma SF2
« on: December 28, 2007, 05:27:59 pm »
So I really need to know where to start.  I have a SF2 in an old Defender cabinet.  I about a month after I bought it the old power supply went so I replaced it with a new switching power supply.  A few weeks ago I ran in to this problem where the monitor would kick on but the game wouldn't.  I also noticed that the little red light on my new power supply wasn't turning on as it usually did when the game was running.  I took my voltage meter and noticed I was not getting 5V from from my power supply so, I popped in a known working working switching power supply from one of my other machines and still had the same problem.  I then took the SF2 PCB and put it in to another Jamma machine which started right up.  Thinking it may of been some of the powersupply wiring I replaced the pigtail, AC Filter, and Fuse holder and still had the same problem.  What do you guys think I should try next??  I checked all the wire connections on the jamma harness and made sure everything was connected to the switching power supply correctly.  Any thoughts?

you may have a short on the 5volt line somewhere on the cab like the coin door

Checked the coin door connections they all look good, don't think there is a short.  One REALLY weird thing is when I move the cabinet a little the machine kicks on every once and a while.  I checked every connection and they all seem to be secure.  Any one have any tips???

Check the power cord going to the machine.
Measure the AC going to the power supply.
Measure both the 5v and the 12v outputs on the power supply.
(disconnect all 5v and 12v connections if need be)
Check all ground connections.
Check the JAMMA edge connector itself going to the pcb for bad contacts.

Basically follow everything from the wall up to the game pcb and you should find something amiss.
