Issues with Golden Tee displaying correctly
« on: November 26, 2007, 10:14:04 am »
I was wondering if someone can help. For Golden tee (and other games that have the same H/V res) I can't get the game to display correctly unless I choose a funky res. If i select 240x240 and set the aspect ratio manually to 1:1 it will just cut part of the image off at the sides so at the start screen part of the G and last E of tee are cut off. 320x240 and does the same thing.

It seems that regardless of what aspect ratio I try and get it to display nothing changes.

I thought that if I selected a res that is higher than the game (ie 320x240 or whatever it is) that it would put it in the middle and blackout the sides but nope.

What am I doing wrong if anything? Why doesn't the aspect ratio thing seem to matter?

I am using the ArcadeVga2 card and a multi sync arcade monitor and am using the settings that it says to use (switch res to fit, no hardware stretch, etc) on the AVGA page.

I also notice this issue to a lesser degree on other games like street fighter 2 which doesn't seem to matter what res I use and aspect ratio I put in and cuts off a bit at the sides.

Golden Tee is 384x240, not square.  Try using 384x288 or 392x240 for the resolution.  Same with SF2 which is 384x224.

I don't own an ArcadeVGA but I do use Powerstrip and add custom resolutions.

These are the Setting I use:

### Windows video options ###

frameskip               0
waitvsync               0
triplebuffer            1
window                  0
ddraw                   1
direct3d                0
hwstretch               0
# screen                <NULL> (not set)
cleanstretch            none
resolution              auto
refresh                 0
scanlines               0
switchres               1
switchbpp               1
maximize                0
keepaspect              0
matchrefresh            0
syncrefresh             0
throttle                1
full_screen_gamma       1.000000
frames_to_run           0
effect                  none
screen_aspect           4:3
# mngwrite              <NULL> (not set)
scale_effect            none

### Golden Tee 2K Tournament (v5.00) ###

### Windows video options ###
hwstretch               1
cleanstretch            auto
resolution              448x240x0

### Street Fighter II - The World Warrior (World 910522) ###

### Windows video options ###
hwstretch               0
resolution              768x254x0

Hope this helps

For some strange reason I could only get it to work with Hardware stretching, but you muight be able to use 384x288 or 392x240 without stretching.

Golden Tee is 384x240, not square.  Try using 384x288 or 392x240 for the resolution.  Same with SF2 which is 384x224.

Golden tee isn't 200x200? Great that the game info is wrong then since it says 200x200.

Well this explains it then and I am using the 384x240 or something so that's good. I also am using 392x240 for SF2 but I noticed that when not using "switch res to fit" that there is a bit more at the sides that gets cutoff when using switch res to fit. NOt a big deal sicne it is minor but was just curious.

Thanks for the help...yet again.  ;D

You definitely want to check the 'switch resolutions to fit' or MAME won't honor your resolution selection (I believe it will just use your desktop res if unchecked).
