Advice and questions for new 27" monitor needed
« on: November 06, 2007, 09:59:29 pm »
Hello,
I'm looking to get a 27" arcade monitor for a cabinet i'm building and had a couple of questions.

1.Is there a way to get vertical games to play and look decent without getting cutoff if the monitor is mounted horizontally?  If not, and I mount it so I can rotate it, is there a certain monitor better and easier for this, or is it mainly done by software?

2.  What would be the best monitor to be able to play all MAME games with ease?

Thanks for the help.

A multisync arcade monitor would be what you want if you are going to play vertical games on it in a horizontal orientation.  Betson, Billabs, and Wells Garder all currently have 27" multisync displays.  I have the Betson and the vertical games look fantastic on it.

So with the multisync it will play the vertical and I won't have to rotate it?  And it won't cut anything off?

That is correct.  The only minor 'issue' I have is with vertical games of around 300-320 lines (mostly later stuff like Don Pachi).  I just use 512x384 for those since that's the closest resolution with enough vertical lines, but the game doesn't quite fill up the entire monitor.  It's close enough though.  The classics like Pacman, Donkey Kong, Dig Dug etc all fit perfectly though.
