ArcadeVGA2 issue with unknown WG Monitor
« on: November 04, 2007, 08:00:42 am »
Attached is a picture of the chassis, I'm pretty sure it's a Wells Gardner due to the WG markings.

These two markings are on the chassis:

wg 881838
wg 03987

It was originally in a Mortal Kombat cabinet, later a Tekken 2/3/Tekken Tag Tournament cabinet.

Also attached is a jpeg and animated gif of what the screen is doing. The picture is garbled.

I'm running a ArcadeVGA2 (AGP version) on Windows 2000, however it does this on all the post/boot screens as well. It's being ran through the Ultimarc video amp on a homemade video cable.

It is totally playable when using my PC monitor but through the arcade monitor, it's unplayable.

On the system I'm also running an XBox and PS3 through a switch box and both work great on the arcade monitor. I've tested the ArcadeVGA through the switch box and directly connected to the monitor using a cable that I know is properly connected (it works just fine on the XBox). I get the same results uniformly.

I've adjusted the settings on the little breakout control and I've adjusted the horizontal sync on the chassis itself. No luck.

Any ideas?

Thanks for reading! :-)

make sure the monitor is in 15K mode and not set to 25K perhaps?

Looks like you have a K70000 series monitor.

You may have to play around with different resolutions.
Looks like you're close because there is at least only one visible screen. (15K range)

Not sure what kind of ArcadeVGA support there is for Windows2000, so you might ask about that.
Not a technician . . . . just a DIY'er.

Hi BKilby, I am using an AVGA with Win2000 and experience no issues. May I ask how you're running an XBOX and PS3 on your arcade monitor? If your using a game system to VGA box, I'm also suspecting that the monitor may possibly be either set to the wrong mode. Or perhaps your monitor is not a standard res. monitor? Certain arcade games, like my NFL Blitz '99 was able to display on both standard and med. resolution monitors. Luckily for me, my monitor was a standard res. and has no issues w/the AVGA. I hope you figure it out!

I don't know that it's a multi-frequency monitor. I'm still kind of a newbie, though I've been working on this thing off and on for three years! :)

Thing that gets me is that the ArcadeVGA is supposed to work in all the post screens and everything, which is separate from the driver. It's only supposed to display in resolutions that my monitor understands. But it doesn't.

Well, it doesn't completely understand. The screen is legible but incredibly  wavy.

Thanks for identifying the monitor, I think that's it!

Sorry, meant PS2.

I'm connected through the Ultimarc game adapters. They change the frequency to 15khz and output at a voltage my monitor will accept.

Thinking about it, something could be wrong with my Ultimarc video amp. It's possible, don't think it's likely but it's possible.

Didn't need the video amp. That turned out to be the problem.

Since I have my monitor wired in a non-standard way (if such a thing is possible), I would have to completely rewire my the cables leading into my switchbox and out toward the monitor to get this to work without the video amp. (Due to the fact that I have my PC connected to the switchbox using the amp.)

After some deliberating, I decided to just wire a +5 volt line to the video amp, works like a charm. Now I have my PS2, XBox and PC all working on the cabinet. The next step is to paint the cabinet, add new t-molding, and add new decals and a marquee. After three years, this thing will finally be done.

Next I think I'll build a cocktail cabinet.

i had a similar problem not to long ago, and thought it was the amp as well... turned out it wasn't.

i was using an AGP slot arcadevga card, and a JPac on a super neo 29. it turned out i had a bad PS2 cable that ran from the jpac to my computer... i replaced it, and the resolution was perfect. i would've never thought that a ps2 cable had something to do with a bad monitor screen????? but it did  :dizzy:
