What runs faster? DOS MAME, LINUX MAME or WIN MAME? For P4 1.7MHZ?

Hello all,

OK.  Here's the deal.   I am currently running Windows XP and the Win32 command line version of MAME with Maximum Arcade.  However, instead of buying a whole new and faster computer to put in my cab, I had wanted to use this computer in the cab and then buy a newer one which would replace my current computer.   

That said, here are my current system specs:
Pentium 4 - 1.7 gHz
512mb Ram
120 GB Hard Drive
GeForce 7 AGP with 512mb Ram video memory
Running Windows XP Pro

Most games run fine but some of the games run choppy, (including Donkey Kong!)  I was thinking that if I ran a Linux version, I could run most of the games faster.  Or would DOS be better?  How about Windows 2000? 

As for Linux and DOS...  Can someone point me in the direction of where to get the MAME versions for these and some decent front ends as well for Linux and DOS?

Your computer is fine. I run about 85-95% of the games full speed on my 400mhz pc.

What mame version are you using? If you're going to use the pc for gaming only you could try Nlite http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=59373.0
