Whenever I see the term "Interactive Film", those submarine DIVE! klaxons go off in my head. As a major non-fan of Dragons Lair and every other interactive cartoon experience, it's a guarantee that the game is going to be horrible.

I think if you go to that companies main page and try their little embedded tech demo, you can get a feel for what they did in the game. Doesn't seem like it'd be fun for most of the people here, but casual (women) players would probably love it. I actually wonder if the arcade machine is just a PC running a full screen Flash animation. By looking at the machine, you can tell it was designed by people who have never played an arcade game in a bar. With that flimsy marquee and wide open LCD, it'd be lucky to survive 15 minutes.

I would hate to hack it in case the planets line up, it gets mentioned in some ---smurfy--- Hugh Grant movie and earns Holy Grail status among bloated housewives. Its only at 31 bucks now, but I have a feeling its going to go much higher just based on parts, not on anyones feelings about it's collector status.

That's my feeling... if it goes around $100, hell it's worth it just for the parts.  I don't feel like going a ton higher than that anyway.

Didn't see much cab pictures on that manufacturers site. I found another picture in a blog entry about The Act: The Act: an Interactive Movie on Location Test

It's definitely a good looking cab.  If it gets too boring after a while that would make a killer juke.

A little discussion on it.

You know what... after going through the links in that thread, I actually want this game.  This looks awesome.

Received an email from some guy saying he had bought one of these from them off Ebay and "they charged me $1000 to crate it and hundreds more to ship to CA".  A couple hours later I got an email from the actual seller saying it is fine to pick up locally and that all shipping arrangements are left to the buyer... pretty much contradicting what the first buyer emailed me.  What a toolbag.

The game looks fun, and the cab is definitely interesting.  But most importantly...  Chad is a newbie somewhere.

Keep us posted on the cab.  I noticed it's several hundred bucks now, but even if you hated it and ignored the fact that it's one of 8 or so created I bet that the monitor on a prototype machine is basically off the shelf and therefor worth several hundred more.

Per the seller:

Quote
The monitor is a DVI flat panel monitor that is capable of a 1366x768
(720p) display.  The display is actually running in 640x480 mode with
the content reformatted to display properly with the 16:9 aspect ratio.

They don't seem eager to say size... but it doesn't look that big.  I suspect it's in the 26" range.  The big thing here may be that, if I read that correctly, the animation is actually framed for widescreen... whereas the conversion kits will be formatted for 4:3, losing substantial parts of the frame.

Interesting concept; I'd certainly like to try playing it.

Bizarre that they chose to go after the arcade market (followed by the home market) instead of just going directly to the home market.

by the looks of the base it does not look like itis very big at all.

not giving a description better of the screen size the weight and the measurements is kinda goofy.

and this part is scary lol

Shipping arrangements for this cabinet will need to be made by the winning bidder. The item is located in the Greater Boston area. Only serious bidders wanted -- the shipping costs alone could end up costing a few thousand dollars.  :dizzy:

I'm still considering it, definitely.  I'm waiting on a bit more info from the guy at arcadeheroes that has a conversion kit.  This game is definitely my style, it's unique... I see it as very similar to Dragon's Lair.

I guess the main question now is, how high to go?  I mean, it's cool and all, but the conversion kits they previously sold went for $400+ and $600+... and it's hard to bid that high on something you've never seen.

This is starting to annoy me about ebay. Their system is about as corrupted as one can get. Luckily, scammers are not extremely active in the arcade part of ebay.

Yeah.  When it got up in the $700 range I stopped watching... and now that it's gone, I can't even see the history to see what happened.  I may email the sellers directly and see what they would let it go for.
