Run multiple versions of MAME in one front end?
« on: October 21, 2007, 11:37:41 pm »
Is there any front end out there that can be configured to play certain ROMs on certain builds of MAME?

For example, I've found that Donkey Kong runs best for me on MAME .115
But Galaga runs best for me in MAME .119

Is there any front end that I could configure that will allow me to choose either game in the same front end, but have Donkey Kong load up in MAME .115, and Galaga in MAME .119?

It's a bummer that they all just won't run in the same build of MAME, but what can ya do?

Thanks in advance, and pardon my n00b questions.

You can do that with mamewah. You just have to create an ini file with the exact name of the game and put it inside your config\emulator\game folder. It would look something like this.

Code: [Select]
### galaga.ini (mamewah v1.62) ###

### Execution Settings ###
pre_emulator_app_commandlines             C:\videogames\joytokey\joytokey.exe mame37 {nowait}{autoquit};C:\videogames\mame37\nodelay.exe {nowait}{autoquit}
emulator_commandline                      C:\videogames\fastmame71\fastmame.exe [name]{nodosbox}
post_emulator_app_commandlines

I also wrote a small tutorial here for Mamewah http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=70828.0

AtomicFe and Kymaera support it natively.

Thanks for the response.

MameWAH.  Is that a pretty user friendly interface?  I'm still pretty novice at MAME, and most of the front ends I've come across just seem a little intimidating.

AtomicFE does that with no problem.

You can say for instance, all my game run with Mame0.100 ,  and define some "exception" to say that that game or that else run witn mame 0.90  or other.

In Atomic you can either build only one list that contains game for totally different emulators.

If you want try Atomic, ask me i will say you how to achieve that.

If possible it would be nice to ask on the Atomic support Forums , here :
