Hi I could use a little help on this one.

I am using a arcacadevga V2 with a ultimarc video amp and on the pc side and the monitor displays great with no issue's with anything.

so I try to hook up the dreamcast through the vga box and the picture is clear and crisp but the white's are a dull looking grey and the black that should be dark black and rich are also a dull grey like when you turn the brightness up to high.

I origanaly had bought a vga box and cut the pin #6 hooked it up and it worked but had the issue's from above so I made a post prior to this and was told to try using the ultimarc video amp.

I connected the amp along with the vga box and then I got a picture that was way to bright even with all my pots all the way down on the chassis.

that did not work so I contacted andy from ultimarc to see if he could help and told me I could try using 3 220-ohm load resisitor's on the RGB signals.

I tried that and got a black screen and it only made the display get way worse.

so I contacted andy again and was told to try the arcadecabinets.co.uk dreamcast to arcade monitor video adapter becuase there's has a built in amp.

I paid $64.37 for it and waited a month for it to show and when it arrived I was geeked dropped what I was doing toinstall it only to find the exact same result as my vga box that I was using to start with.

on the PC side it looks great on the dreamcast side it alomst is like it has a tinted overlay or something.

at the very top of the screen display when trying the dreamcast it appears that the very top of the display there is a line around an 1/8" that appears to look like the right coloring and the white's are white and the blacks are black and not greyed out like the rest of the screen.

I have tried playing with the color pots and brightness but they dont help they go brighter and such but I need the black to be black black and the whites to be white but as it stands it is like there greyed out.

I would think it is something with the moniotr now but dont see how when the pc display on it is awsome and clear with no gerying of anything.

I just don't get it I am using a nanao MS8-26SU so if anyone has this monitor and a dreamcast hooked to it what were your results?

I did a search on the monitor/video section here keyword dreamcast and read each post of the 4 page search results and seen others had a similair or same problem but the answer's were never followed up on any of them.

It seems that for some reason your DC is not working in RGB mode. It just might be possible that not all Dreamcasts do. Or maybe there is a fault and the voltage which is used to supply the amp is not being sent out the AV port. This voltage is likely to be routed via a small fuse on the DC main board.
AFAIK there is no setting in a menu which needs to be changed to enable RGB (unlike the Playatstion 2 ) but could be wrong.

yeah there is no built in os to play with the video settings on the dreamcast.

I have tried 2 different console's and got the same effect I will grab my sisters and try her console and see if it does the same or not on a 3rd system.

I tried 2 more dreamcast that were the same version motherboard and got the same result's on all 3

it appears that there is a line around 1/8" across the top of the display that is the right coloring and the rest of the screen down has a tint look like the white's and black's have a toach of grey.

when I switch it over to the pc or arcade side it displays perfect and I dont have to toach anything.

I tried different console's and different cord's and still no go.

I can play it fine and it display's alright but I know something is just not right and have no clue why.

I'm not trying to adjust the screen size I am trying to get the monitor to display the correct colors like seen in that bar.

the coloring in the bar above appread to be the correct coloring and the rest of the screen outside that bar has a tinted look that should not be there.

the bar on the top display's colors like my pc and arcade boards wich are perfect.

so if I adjust the vertical size it has something to do with the coloring?

never heard of that so that is why I ask.

If you mean the very top-most line that looks kinda white then it could be worthwile adjusting the V-size so it moves out of the screen. This could improve the overall picture.

Not sure if that is what you mean though...

no I am trying to get the monitor to display the colors correctly like in that bar.

the bar itself is displaying nice clear crisp bright colors like it should be displaying on the whole screen like the pc and arcade boards do.

I am not worried about getting rid of the bar I am trying to get the monitor to display the colors just like that bar.

everything on screen except that bar has a grey tinted look when it should not have that grey look at all and be displaying the colors like in the bar shown in the pictures at the top of the screen.

like the picture with the stone flooring really shows off how the true coloring should be in the bar it is clearer brighter and the colors are more true and rich.

on the dreamcast start-up logo screen it is white normally on any display and on mine it looks grey but in the bar above it is the correct white the whole screen should be displaying.
