Act-Labs Lightgun mod (99.5% Complete)
« on: September 25, 2007, 01:01:40 pm »
Have just started transferring the inside of my actlabs vga lightgun to a new case and all is well!!!! (A bit touch and go aligning the optics!) Was shocked to see how badly designed the insides are. Anyway im having  little trouble with the callibration switch. The internal switch is a little larger than the slider from the new switch and was wondering if sanding the plastic down would be a bad idea. Anyone done one of these that can comment? ???

Its still a work in progress so no finished pics or walkthrough yet. Snapped a quick shot of the actlabs parts inside the new gun case, more pics will follow when mores done.

Just finished extending the wires for the optics as the new gun is much longer than the old "Captain Proton" gun. Tested it up today and its working perfectly. I still need to fit the callibration switch, blue LED's and the second button on. Will do a write up when complete if enough people are interested.
The gun was an old PS1 predator by the way. Sprayed it pink to match "Betty's" new paint job. :applaud:

Gun is pretty much done had a quick game of HOD3 to test it :)
One thing remains, the LED lighting. I want the lights to only go on when the trigger has been pressed. The LED's are using a 12V supply (pulled from the computers PSU) I want to connect the ground to the trigger switch. Im using the trigger from the original act labs gun. Can I use the ground from the switch for the LEDS? It seems to ground to the VGA box. Any help anyone.........

Hi Waveryder,

I've completed one Act Labs conversion in which I placed the Act Labs gun's inners into a Playstation gun. One issue I have is when I pull and release the trigger, it registers as 2 shots about 50% of the time. Does this ever happen to yours?

Also, are you using the optic board of the original gun? I'm using the Act Labs one (just mounted it with a screw and hot glue).

Did you solder wires to the Act Labs trigger board, or are you using the Act Labs wires that come out of the Act Labs trigger board? I'm also wondering which parts of the original you're using and which of the Act Labs.

Thanks for your time!

Mine doesnt register 2 shots? cant think why it would do that?

Im using the original trigger microswitch from the actlabs board however I deided to use the optics from the playstation gun as the actlabs optics were a big load of poo!!! Everything else is the orignal actlabs parts. Except the trigger mechanism as I liked the "pull" that the new springs resistance causes. Hope that helps.
