Sports themed cabinet?
« on: September 09, 2007, 05:20:14 pm »
My project is currently called "Hit The MAME" as it was originally a Hit The Ice.  I found fairly quickly that I wouldn't be able to salvage the artwork (one side had been sanded) but I am a huge hockey fan and wanted to keep with that.

More specifically I am a Buffalo Sabres fan, maybe even a fanatic.  The room that this machine is going into is covered in Sabres memorabelia.  I think I could pull off a really cool design based on the Sabres colors and logo.  Attached below is a quick rendering of what it could look like.

I know that there are some faux pas when it comes to theming your arcade, and I don't want to end up on the "worst MAME" list.  ;D

I love the theme.  Glad they went back to the original Sabres colors.  Nots so sure about the new logo tho.

Faux pas nothing. Don't let anyone dictate to you what you can and can't do with your own cabinet. The sheer arrogance of anyone suggesting there's a right way and a wrong way to theme your cabinet is astounding. You're the one that's going to have to look at it every day. If you want to cover the whole thing in pink fur fabric and upholster your cp in leopard print vinyl with a mirror ball hanging off the marquee then it's nobody else's business but yours.

I know what you mean, I was more so being sarcastic with my "faux pas" question.  I really just wanted to know what everyone thought of the theme.  I think its a cool color scheme to go with, and will give me something other than black to paint the sides.

You've probably got a good start with the artwork, going with your favorite hockey team.  How about writing them a letter, letting them know what you are up to.  The worst that can happen is they blow you off.  The best...???

Good luck with the build.

Get rid of the "Buffa-slug" and go with this logo:

I was upset last summer about the change, I'm well over it now.  Once I bought my jersey I changed my mind about the logo, I think its pretty cool.

Someone around here built a pretty cool Seattle Seahawks cabinet (well, cool if you like the Seahawks - a NY Giants one would have been much better).  I'm sure a search would find it.

I like non-traditional looking cabinets as long as the construction is clean and it's not an eyesore.   Good luck!

I think it'd be cooler (hockey pun!) as an avalanche/nordiques cabinet but the good ol days of marc crawford and patrick roy are long gone. =)
