Looks like Kev is giving up...

http://retroblast.com/

Oh well, I could see it coming: he started a downhill slide once he took over the magazine.

So long, and thanks for all the fish Kev - I wish you the best!

Not an easy decision to make, I'm sure. Hopefully it's the best one for him.

Cheers Kev, it was good while it lasted.

Kev,

Here's to hoping you get well. Your efforts on the magazine have not went unnoticed. I always get excited every time I see the plastic wrapped magazine in the mailbox.

Thanks for the years of dedicated and passionate work, Kevin. RetroBlast was a major source of information and help for when I was building my MAME cabinet. Without RetroBlast, I might have ended up making more mistakes than I originally did.

Thanks again, and I'll be seeing you in the pages of GameRoom Magazine each month.

Retroblast was a great, great site...   I hope BYOAC does indeed archive the wealth of information that was and always will be Retroblast.

UGH why do people DO THIS!
If you don't have time for a site then just STOP UPDATING IT, but DON'T TAKE IT OFFLINE!!!

There was plenty of valuable information there, plenty of pages other sites linked to... Leave all that up. Just make it clear on the front page that the site will no longer be updated.

 ???
NO MORE!!

The content is not lost... Saint may be taking it and it may also be going to another group interested in archiving it....

It's important to keep the original domain and page URLs intact though.
I'm willing to host the site.

He'll probably want to offer the 1.5GB disk he referenced for $$ to recoup his years of work or offer it as a bonus when signing up for his magazine, so I'd venture to guess he won't take you up on your offer of free hosting RayB.

Hosting doesn't mean OWNING it.
I just believe it should stay online without breaking any links.

I know.....that's not what I was getting at. What I meant was that if he allows it remain available online, then the demand for his di$c would be non-existent.

But look, I could be way way off base here, it's just speculation...he could very well welcome someone else hosting it for archival purposes.

Wow...I'm just now catching up with all the threads here.

RayB -- the content is not gone, and will be back (in several forms, actually!)

The reason the content went offline was because I moved the entire RetroBlast site to a sub-directory in preparation for launching the new RetroBlast (which was nearly ready), but in the process a ton of links were broken, even though Dreamweaver assured me it was all moved properly (never, never trust that program!)

Needless to say, things were a mess. I also lost the databases for the backend software, so a lot of the site wasn't coming back in the same form as before - I couldn't just re-upload everything and have it work.

The content that matters (reviews and videos) is not lost, and there are two projects to revive RetroBlast's content underway. That's about all I can say about it for now. I won't be involved, but I'm giving the project my "stamp of approval."

I'm also going to put all the content on a self-running DVD, so everyone can have a full copy of the site. I like the "subscription sign up bonus" idea.  ;D

Bottom line: the content will be back, and not just in a "pay" version. I realize a lot of people relied on those reviews, and I would never just "take my ball and go home."

Keep an eye on the RetroBlast.com site...no promises, but things are going on behind the scenes and I'm optimistic that we'll have something cool to announce fairly soon.
