Video Cards and Mame to TV issue
« on: August 20, 2007, 04:17:49 pm »
I have a Mame setup that currently works great in an arcade cab,,ie.  arcade monitor with ArcadeVGA card & JPAC.  I want to be able to use a TV instead of the arcade monitor.  I bought an ATI Radeon card (128mb)with s-video and hooked it up to my tv.  The computer system itself runs fine but mame (Mame32 with WinXP) runs sloooow!

This setup ran perfect with one of Ultimarcs ArcadeVGA video cards and an arcade monitor.  So it has to be the video card?  Is anyone else using a TV with some sort of mame setup?  If so what kind of video card are you using?

I also hooked up the ATI card to a PC monitor, still slow. I then pulled out the video card and hooked up the PC monitor straight to the motherboards onboard video and it ran perfect and fast! The problem is I want to be able to use a TV not a pc monitor and not an arcade monitor.

Not sure about your problem but you are probably the first person in the history of the world to want to go from an arcade monitor to a TV .  Just curious, why?

I built a portable system.  It has 2 joys with fighter setup, and a trackball, in a box that can sit on my lap.  That way I can take it to anyones house that has a tv with s-video or yellow red white hookup,(whatever those are called..composite?).  Like one of those x-arcade things or superguns that run mame instead of just a single gameboard.  I also have it setup to run Jamma pcbs , that part was the easy part.  So it works as a good portable test bench, or I can play a jamma pcb at someones house and I can play roms with it.  I still have the mame setup in the garage in a cab, I just wanted to try out this kind of portable project.

Ah well that makes perfect sense.   :)
Have you tried different drivers?  I've always had good luck with Omega drivers:

I am also having speed issues now that I've made my CPU output to a TV, through DVI to component. I have an ATI 8500dv, which is a 64mb card. It ran perfect, fast, clear, and everything when hooked up to a computer monitor, but now when its hooked to my TV the performance goes to  :censored: and so does the image quality, size, refresh, etc. I also have a problem with over scanning... I'd be very interested to hear how people rectify these problems.
