How to use the joystick to control the mouse?
« on: August 17, 2007, 07:59:45 pm »
Can somebody tell me the easiest and simplest way to make my Mame cabinet joystick control the mouse?

I have a MAME cabinet controlled via an IPAC and I primarily use MAMEwah as the front interface etc.

Just recently I have connected the cabinet to my home network which opens up a few extra possibilities with the mame cabinet however to exploit these fully it would be very useful if I could find a program that would easily allow me to map the mouse controls and mouse buttons to my joystick and buttons so I don't have to open up the cabinet and use the mouse directly.

I've searched around the net and found a few things but nothing that I think is perfect.

What do other people do with their cabs? Anybody got any good recommendations?

Would be nice for example to, and you might say why would you need to do this (erm because it would be nice if I could!), use the joystick to control the mouse and have the basic ability to surf webpages from the cabinet?

I look forward to hearing from anybody!

Thanks

Sorry I can't help since I use playstation joysticks connected through usb adapters. The good thing about this is I can use joytokey or xpadder to simulate a mouse. Only problem is that the since windows doesn't detect a mouse attached you have no cursor. I have to be pushing the CTRl key to know where my mouse is.

A program called AutoHotkey comes with a script in it's instructions on how to use that program to control a mouse with a joystick.  It's a really powerful tool if you feel at all comfortable mucking around with simple code.

I've had a little look already at autohotkeys but was trying to be lazy and find something that wouldn't need me to sit for a few hours and figure out how to get the script right for my set up however, if that is the best there is, I may obviously go this route.

I'd also found a little program called Mouseman which, although in Swedish, seems to work well as regards movement but I was having a lot of difficulty with the mouse clicks and it seems to only suggest your mouse would have a left button so possibly it is VERY old or I'm just misunderstanding it.
