Best wireless Gamecube controller?
« on: August 17, 2007, 04:58:54 pm »
Is there a consensus on what is the best wireless gamecube controller out there?  I have a couple Pelican controllers and they feel pretty rugged and work well, but the analog stick seems very sensitive to me.  It's fine for games like Smash Bros, but not so good for flight or driving games like Rogue Squadron 2.  Any feedback would be appreciated.

I've never been impressed with the Wavebird.

I don't know if it was just a problem with mine or what, but either it seemed it needed absolutely fresh batteries in order to function correctly, or it sucked the juice so fast you needed to replace them a bit too often.

I think the Wavebird is a spectacular controller.  I've never had the above-mentioned problems.

Me neither.  Good controller.  I use Scrap (Radio) Shack rechargables in it and they seem to last well enough to not tick me off....  :)

I've never had any issues with the wavebird's battery life. I hardly ever have to put new batteries in it.

Personally, I would never touch a third party controller for the gamecube; wavebird all the way.

Wavebird hands down.

I was a little concerned with the manual channel selection, but I've only had to change channels once, after I moved.

Wii owners are snatching them up like crack to a crack whore. It's driving the price up. It's worse than it needs be because (I believe) Nintendo stopped production on them.

I found one online, but it's not the 'platinum' version (whatever that is).  Is it still the same thing?

I believe the platinum version just means its silver.

And I also think the wavebird is great, I picked one up new at GameStop shortly after I got my Wii.

Platinum is indeed just the color, no difference otherwise.

And yeah, the wavebird is a GREAT controller.  No need to look elsewhere for the GC (or Wii)

Well, I'd definitely say they are good, but I paid $30-35 each for new ones back in March from the Nintendo store. Have they been discontinued?

Wavebird gets teh nod, but I use a couple mad catz controllers I got from EB and they've worked fine for me.  I like mad catz, but the get a lot of gruff from people for some reason.

The wavebirds are nice (they are in fact the only gc controllers I even own), but the lack of rumble is super craptastic.

[EDIT]

I never used the MadCatz wireless controllers, but the MadCatz MicroCon wired controllers were definitely nice. They had a good sturdy feel to them. The first party GC controllers feel like toys (something about the materials Nintendo uses for them), but all the other controllers I tried (with the exception of the fore mentioned MadCatz) felt like cheep knock-off toys.

I figured I was in the minority.  I've heard plenty rave reviews about them...maybe mine was just flawed.

I never saw a huge need for rumble.  Though, I also never saw a need for wireless either.

Wavebirds.  2 AA's last for a while.  It's the Wii that eats batteries.

Just thought I would add that if anyone is looking for a wavebird and doesn't feel like paying over $70 for one they are selling them at play-asia.com for $40.  I just ordered 2 of them...I will update this thread if I actually receive them (I thought they were put out of business by Sony?).
