Dremel Model 730 belt sander
« on: July 31, 2007, 03:04:44 pm »
Not exactly arcade related but it is wood related so....

I was working with my model 730 when the drive belt snapped.

Since I was out of belts, I called around to find that none of the major stores even knew what I was talking about. Found one M&P shop that had them but it turns out they were NOS and so old they were brittle.

Had them call and email Dremel and found out that Dremel doesn't even know what it is that I have. Seems my sander was sold before Dremel was sold (twice) and found new ownership with Bosch.  The guy at the M&P wasn't familiar with the smaller tool line so we couldn't find a compatible belt. :banghead:

Any suggestions? I thought about jury rigging something, but this is a higher speed tool so rubber bands are out.  :'(

Yeah, call back and get a better call center employee.  Then get their supervisor.

I'd try www.mcmaster.com they have a ton of that type of hard to find stuff.

Look at your old belt, measure it the best you can and try to match it up.

You'll probably find something similar enough to work perfectly.

Ummm... I'm not actually sure where the belt pieces are. I switched it on and it simply wasn't there anymore. It's probably buried in six inches of saw dust or clear across the garage.  :-\

Have you ever seen it? Was it a V like an automotive belt, flat like a rubber band or round? About how wide? Can you tie a string around the 2 pulleys and get an idea of the length that way?

If you still have the tool, it may take a few minutes but you should be able to figure out what was on there.
