Ok guys its been a long while since I've been here and I need some input...I was reading the edited faq and if I understand it right..monitors and TV's are basicaly the same

"A normal TV DOES have the same horizontal frequency as an RGB monitor out of our classic machines.  It is 15.7xxx where as a VGA monitor is about 31k.  Basically those RGB monitors are regular TV parts for the most part."

taken from the faq.

So if I'm understanding it right..If I use a TV wit RGB component inputs I should be able to acheive monitor quality through my vga card?

So will it make that much of a difference..I want to build 2 cabinets and I would like to use 25 inchers either way.

Unless you live in Europe where they have SCART (RGB) inputs on their TVs, you won't be able to achieve the exact same arcade picture quality on a TV with component inputs because they are a completely different signal type (arcade monitors use RGB).  That said, component is probably the next best thing to an arcade monitor or TV with SCART connection IMO.  There are many threads around here with pictures of both arcade monitors, TV/component, and TV/S-video.

EDIT: actually there is one other option to convert a regular CRT TV to an arcade monitor:

Thanks ahofle...after reading through a couple of posts I think I'm going to go with a Multisync and and the Acarde VGA...from what I've read the Betson Kortek seems to be a favorite.. is this still the case..I was thinking of going with a flat screen I realy like the looks of them...Has something come along better than the Betson..or can I count it as a sure thing?

I have the Betson and so far everything is pretty nice.  I do have one complaint though.  The sides of the screen are squished a little bit at certain (mostly CGA) resolutions.  It's not terrible, but noticeable and annoying to me.  I have read about a few others with this same issue.  I'm not sure if the problem is only with Betsons though or with multisyncs in general as they have to do quite a bit more than a standard CGA monitor (ie switching from 15khz to 25khz to 31khz to 38khz).  There is also a new 24.8" flat multisync from Billabs that I am quite curious about (the Betson is 27").  Also Rick from Nieman Displays talked about a possible digital multisync in the works.  Let us know what you end up with.
