And downsizing the image defeats the purpose of the size of the monitor. Billabs has a 19" multi-sync. I agree the scanlines are very pronounced. As well, the avga somehow makes the monitor display more brightly. Soft-15khz doesn't do this. However, you get used to both, and then it's like anything else isn't good enough. I know, Andy is really part of a big brother cult - HAHAHAH.
Um, anyway, many scrolling games need 'triple buffer' checked. Some non-scrolling games do, too, but they're rare. The sound, though, that's just what happens with the technology at those resolutions. In a cab, you probly won't hear it.
Also, you can try out advancemame and 'scale' the image up to a higher resolution and add effects. Advancemame is the only version I know that actually will make the image the full size of the monitor when doing this (usually by using 'fractional' in the resizing effect in the tab menu). It has an assload of parametres within 'mame'. However, some of the more esorteric things require augmenting an 'rc' file, similar to an ini.
