Mine came in today. It's a decent wheel as-is but it's a hackers dream.
First off, the wheel itself comes off at the hub for storage. The wheel is completely self-contained, even the pot for steering is on the hub connector, so putting this wheel on a permenant mount would be as easy as unscrewing the hub on the tri-pod end and screwing it to a pole mounted to a cab/whatever. Also the connector between the wheel and pedals is a good old vga connector.... so it'd be insainely easy to get rid of those pedals nobody seems to care for and just hook up a regular set. The xbox memory card slot is on the tripod, meaning it goes through the vga connector, meaning you could wire up a usb hub instead! So once hacked you have a good place to plug in external shifters or what not.
The self-contained wheel also brings in the interesting possiblily of multiple wheels. What came to mind to me immediately is that one could buy a second wheel.... hack into the analog out on the vga connector to get another axis, and make a removeable star wars yoke! A spy hunter wheel... ect would also be possible as well as a flight yoke or whatever. The hub connector is rather generic, so an enterprising person could probably make their own connectors and not have to buy multiple wheels to make other add-ons. They'd still need "guts" though as those are in the main wheel.
The dual rumble motors are positioned well. Although it isn't true ff, it actuall feels quite similar due to the way the motors were mounted (they make steering difficult, just like a m$ ff wheel does). The motors are also built into the wheel itself, meaning your hack will have ff support! I haven't tested it yet, but "wheel" ff profiles should work well on this in windows.
The pedals are not rigid, but rather have a joint where they connect to the arm. This is a good thing because when you go to hack, you can mount them upside down, remove the little plastic pedal, put a real car pedal on a piano hinge, and it'll work with these arms. That one is a tad hard to explain, but if you understand how car pedals work and look at this then it makes sense.
My only real complaint is the wheel itself is a tad on the small side, that can be fixed though by transferring to a different housing.
