Ms Pac-Man cocktail stye: -update 10.9-
« on: April 12, 2007, 12:30:50 pm »
Hey all after lurking for ages, i figured i'd share-

quick and to the point:

about a month ago i started building myself a cabinet from scratch

specs:
3/4 birch
ms pacman dimensions, but 11 inch control panels
mag stick plus joysticks
3 buttons per player
21 inch pc monitor

attached are some pictures, but there are more, as well as progress pics on my quickie website:

http://www.korenstra.com/mpm

these pictures aren't fully up to date, since the last photos were taken, the buttons/joysticks have been mounted, top has been cut, and is being painted right now, next step is to finalize the mounting of the monitor.

I look forward to hearing about what improvements i could do, or anything, let me know what you think!

Looking good man!  I'm hoping to build a cocktail cabinet with some nice, stained wood as well.  Defintely inspired by the pacman cocktails.

Very nice.  Is that bare metal on top?  Have you given any thought to a vinyl overlay?  You can get plain black pretty cheap or if you wanted something fancier you could have something printed.

you know, i hadn't honestly thought about it much, but i could defiantly spring for some black vinyl.   Best place to get a small amount? (just enough for the two CP's)

I'd ask Ponyboy or someone in the Buy/Sell/Trade forum.  Happs will ship you any amount but they will KILL you on shipping something like that.  I used "Black Pica Vinyl" for mine and it makes a huge difference - even over bare black metal.  Check out HOW I DID IT.

That is definatly awesome, and i really appreciate the help..

after deciding upon building this, i, of course, did plenty of research as i knew nothing about cocktail cabinets other than the fact they were smaller than my homemade SFII cab, and nintendo playchoice.   Although, it's really an interesting experience being helped by those who made the examples that i looked at for many hours.  THanks again to the community and everyone in it

Hey, you got some encouragement earlier - I'm sure that folks are following along.  Plus you never know when someone will look at this thread down the road for ideas/hints.  I'm not building a cocktail myself, but it looks like you're doing a fine job to me.  You should update again when it's complete, at a minimum.

P.S.  Smooth beverage holder  ;)

I do have a general question. I have only played upright arcade cabs, never a cocktail version, so I am wondering how one would play a cocktail-style cab. Do you just bend over it, stand upright, so maybe sit on a chair behind the controls?

Thanks for putting up with me.  It took me longer than expected (clearly)

without any further delays:   It's finished
sort of.
minus the top glass which is being cut right now.

Im not much of a man of words, but i am very willing to answer questions.  i would love to share my knowledge and history of this machine.  Ask away, nothing is to stupid or trivial.
The flash makes the wood grain look a little unreal in some of the pictures, just bare with it

Although there are a few pictures here, you should really check out my picture album

thanks!

christian.
