Dedicated Ms. Pac-Man for Trade or Sale
« on: April 03, 2007, 12:25:28 am »
I have a dedicated Ms. Pac-Man (missing back door) that I'm parting with.  Pictures upon serious request.  I live in Central Illinois.

For purchase.  Make offer.

*Again,  I can send pictures before an offer is made.

For trade I would take:

Donkey Kong Upright
Burger Time

Interested?  Please send e-mail to:  kavon@sprint.blackberry.net

I will be up front.  All details about this cab.

Pretty solid except for the missing door.  Monitor will need a new cap kit soon.  Playable.

What the heck...UPDATE:  Added some pictures. More if needed (insides, etc.)

you would get the new CP overlay

$150 cash and I pick up

That's a crazy offer.  I paid $550.00.  I will not go lower than 500.00.

Perhaps you should say "make any offer above $500.00" then.

Agreed, 500.00 isn't bad for that machine.  Looks like it needs a new bezel though.

You offered $150.  If that is not a lowball, describe one.

$150 is a lowball offer.  Your potential profit margin for reselling the game has no affect on the market value of the game as it sits in his home right now.

I don't have a problem with making a $150 offer except that you're trying to tell us it's not a lowball.  You're not going to convince anyone here that it is not.

In the condition it's in you will be lucky to pull in $300.00.  $200-$250 is more along the lines of a reasonable asking price.  If he wants the $500 he is going to have to put in a little work.  $150 is a RESPECTABLE low-ball offer.   At $150 the cabinet would be a pretty good deal,  but certainly not a steal...IMHO.

It's not a $150 empty cab... but the boardset is worth $100-150 alone.

$150 is certainly a lowball offer. You can pull the boardset and sell it on ebay for over $100 with ease. Then you have a coin door, power supply, working monitor, marquee, and cp. Just parting it out would easily net you over $200. Put all of those together in a decent condition dedicated cab, and it makes $150 a definite lowball offer.

Chad, you asked him to describe a lowball offer, so that is what he did. he also made up a bunch of number that he never originally thought about, so that has to be like a bonus.

There's no such thing as a "respectable" lowball offer.

Coutesy, Merriam-Webster:

Main Entry: low·ball
Pronunciation: 'lO-"bol
Function: transitive verb
1 : to give (a customer) a deceptively low price or cost estimate
2 : to give a markedly or unfairly low offer <lowballed him in contract negotiations>
- lowball noun

Your support of this doesn't suprise me as you're a fellow lowballer.  In fact you'll proudly brag about offering a lower price on an item when the asking price is ridiculously low to begin with (without even having the decency to look at it, no less!).

I dunno...a quick look at Ebay shows boards having sold for $65-$75...the ones demanding more than $100 didn't sell...

Cheap-skates.

First off... to be dictionary accurate LOW BALLING only really applies when making a BID on a contract,  then after agreeing to a price and doing the work,  then charging more.  An offer is an offer,  be it low,  middle,  or high.   The seller has the right to decline said offer (as the OP has done).  No one has gotten hurt...as is the case when someone truly "LOW BALLS".

You call it cheap-skate,  I call it smart.

...and here is a cheap skate for you!

PS: I'd only brag about offering less on an already good deal IF I got it for the lower price... Welcome to capitalism.

I did a similar look on RGVAC before making that statement and good working boards were in the range I quoted.  Locally here they go in that range as well.  On ebay, with game boards, they go cheaper because of the amount of scammers there.

Also, if you look deeper into the ebay results, it shows a bit a different tale. Tested and working boards from decent sellers all go over $100. Untested but complete boards get the $60 to $70 that FrizzleFried mentioned.

Coin door?  You kidding me?  Worthless.  These cabs are thrown out all the time with the coin door attached.

Auction # 290098490033  $49 + $12 shipping
Auction # 290100312760  $65 + $12 shipping

Both wonderfully restored with spray paint.

Power supply?  Near worthless.  Nobody needs this.

Auction # 120099094749  $9.99 + $10 shipping

untested nasty looking power supply

Marquee?  $25, tops.  I've got one laying on the floor in my gameroom, I've seen stacks of them in warehouses and auctions.

Auction # 280099662899  $28.50 + $12 shipping

Also, you forgot about the control panel. Throw that new CPO on it and...

Auction # 130095513925  $46.00 + $12 shipping

Or just the cpo...

Auction # 290098232944  $25.00 + $7 shipping
Auction # 140102568208  $18.00 + $12 shipping

And the joystick...

Auction # 130095515794  $10.00 + $8 shipping
Piece of ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---

Also, a working monitor that just needs a cap kit certainly will net you something. At least $25 on CL or something.

...Worthless...Near worthless...Worthless...

You would think the guy that begged for free parts for weeks so he could build a free cab would know that these things aren't at all worthless.

Maybe it's only worthless because this seller has a robust return policy.

No need to apologize to this guy. Everything being said here is showing this guy and potential buyers that the machine is worth considerably more than $150.

Nobody said anything about driving 6-8 hours. There is a market in central Illinois with or without you. The point here isn't how much money pinballjim could make off of this machine. The point is how much money lebanull can sell it for. As for inflated prices, I cited actual auctions with real prices, and then estimated selling them for less in each case just to be conservative... You used an opinion that they are worthless with absolutely no backup or basis. So actually the case would be you deflating the price rather than me inflating it. $150 is a lowball offer. I honestly don't even see how you can pretend to debate that fact.

Also if it takes you 10+ hours to start 6 auctions and tape up 6 boxes, you have more problems than being proven wrong by me time and time again.

It's worthless, so there is no reason you should need one.

Uhm... yes it is.  I offered $150, because I'm pinballjim and I offered what it's worth to pinballjim.

That makes it no less of lowball. It is far less than what it is actually worth. Whether or not the offer was a lowball was the arguement taking place. Please do not change the arguement to suit pinballjim's needs.

Good thing that someone savvy enough to post on a hobbyist message board has you to do his research for him.  Although, I think if he found this place, he knows about Google and Ebay.  Call it a hunch.

Best of luck to the seller.

I don't know what that has to do with you denying it was a lowball, but ok.

OK...ok...ok...it was a LOWBALL offer... is there something WRONG with that?

I don't think so. Any seller should know how to deal with that. I was just making a point that $150 was in fact a lowball offer. pinballjim said otherwise. We argued. I think he finally gets it, so it is done. Good luck to the seller.

It shouldn't have been posted publicly. Offers are meant to be made by pm, especially low ball offers to deter off-topic banter such as this.

Making a fair offer to a colleague of the hobby, and offering to get what appears to be a hulking piece of junk out of an old lady's basement are two different things. In the latter case, "$150 and I pick it up tonight" would be a valid offer. For a fellow hobbyist who even has taken the time to buy a new CPO, and by the wording of the post is not trying to offload "a hulking piece of crap in the basement",  $150 and I pick it up offer is insulting.

I tend to make offers in the thread with the intention that even if it gets rejected, at least it sets a baseline for others who would make offers after me.

I'm not a big fan of lowballing, personally.  If a person wants an offer I'm going to offer them something on the low end of market value.  Have I gotten games for way below?  Sure, but those prices were dictated by the seller, not an accepted offer.  I see a substantial difference between offering $75 and buying for a $75 asking price.

For the record of potential buyers, dedicated, working Ms. pacmans go for anywhere between $350 & $750 at auction regularly, depending on shape. Considering the shape of this one , and the fact he is including a new overlay, and the fact it is for private sale and not auction (no additional fees like in an auction which can be susbstantial). It is worth $500.

It's a MAME-oriented message board.

Well apparently the big doesn't quite agree with that.

This board has steadily been branching out to encompass much more than just mame. Many many topics here are dedicated arcade related. Also, a game being emulated has no bearing on value to a collector.

I am still trying to figure out what you "proved" here.

there is no official relationship between MAME and BYOAC whatsoever

Quote
one has nothing to do with the other

Quote
BYOAC involves much more than MAME

Quote
BYOAC encompasses arcade controls, game console controllers (used on your PC, or arcade controls on your console), shareware and commercial game software (there are hundreds of excellent games out there that work well with arcade controls), jukeboxes, authentic arcade machines, and much much more

Quote
You will never hear me refer to a project as a MAME cabinet, because to do so entirely misses the point of BYOAC

Quote
MAME is only one facet (albeit a really big and fun one) of what BYOAC is all about

Yah...he DOES say "Make Offer".  If it said something like "Looking for $600/obo" or "Offers over $400 will be considered" or "$500 firm",  that would be one thing.  Hell,  even "Reasonable offers considered" would cover it.  "Make offer" invites exactly what he got...though I can understand Sheridan's point as well.  Though "PM all offers" would also make things clear.

I have so many problems with this thread (like the lack of tommy quotes) and, somewhat surprisingly  ;D, not many of them are with pinballjim and his offer.

Apparently, unlike everybody else, I started getting ticked with the OPs "pictures upon serious request" line. That set the tone for me, so perhaps I was more inclined to entertain PBJ's point of view.

Is it a low offer ? Yes.

Was it out of line ?  Not by a long shot. The seller asked for offers. He did not ask for offers by PM nor set a baseline price. I see a MsPac that needs work to get to the $500 level (and I too think that the replacement CPO looks off). My opinion, of course, and I was happy to keep it to myself for most of the day and watch everybody else pick on PBJ.

The way I see it, there ain't no way to get a good deal if you don't ask ...

Cheers.

I agree with those who think $150.00 was a lowball offer, at the coin op auction in Columbus last month all the old school games went high- $600.00 and up.
Not all were in great condition so obviously somebody wants them and is willing to pay $$$.
But there is nothing wrong with a lowball offer.
The cheaper you can get it the better for you, all the seller has to do is say no.

What are you selling again?

I think people here lost track of things. You want $150 for it? yes ? no? move on people.
