Isolation transformer
« on: March 30, 2007, 11:25:23 pm »
Hi, I have a nanao/sega 14" mc1400s monitor and need to get an isolation transformer for it. Would a standard 120 volt transformer work with it since I believe the monitor uses a 100 volts to work. If I am wrong on the monitor voltage please correct me. Also what should the minimum amps of the tranformer be. Thanks

Do NOT use a standard 120 volt isolation transformer !!
It will damage the chassis almost instantly.

You will need a stepdown isolation transformer to go from 120 down to 100.
Not a technician . . . . just a DIY'er.

Hrmm...interesting.  Would the same go for Nanao monitors?  I have one that clearly shows 100v marked on the back of the tube...

Yes, Nanao made monitors for Sega. Most Nanao and Nanao/Sega monitors operate on 100 volts AC and are usually marked "100 VOLTS".

Ken do you happen to know where I could get a 100volt transformer for my monitor? Would a nintendo isolation transformer work with  a nanao chassis since it is 100 volts?

Found the transformers:
http://www.smelectronics.com/japantrans.htm

It's a 100w step down but my Nanao is rated at 105w :/  That is maximum rating though so I think I may just take my chances...

I wouldn't reccomend pushing it that close.  You really should look for an isolation transformer that has a 100v tap in it.  I found one listed here: http://quarterarcade.com/Game.aspx/4526?m=1
