scratched tv
« on: March 21, 2007, 11:43:26 pm »
I manged to scratch the screen on my TV in my cab. Lets put the fact that I'm an idiot aside. My question is, can it be possibly buffed out? It painfully sticks out and I need to resolve the problem. If it can't be fixed, I'm getting an arcade monitor.

It may just be the anti glare coating thats stuffed, so try polishing the whole thing with toothpaste to see if you can get it all off.

I will give it a shot, but i'm pretty sure i scratched it. I scratched it with the smoked glass cover I had over it, which I also scratched and can replace for another 60 bucks, crap.

Well once the coatings off it, you can always take it to your local windscreen repair place with some beer on friday at about 30 mins to closing and see how you get on.

As you already admitted to being an idiot ( :P), try some of that eyeglasses scratch repair stuff they sell on TV (and maybe walgreens).  It's supposed to fill in the scratches and harden clear so you can't tell and see through it fine.

If you try this, let me know if it works.

Hopefully, not too late??

Is there actualy an antiglare coating?? This is used on smaller monitor tubes extensively, and some of the larger tv's.

Or is it a scratch in the glass?

If there is antiglare and you start to remove the scratch then be prepared to remove the glare coating on the entire screen, because once you start on that small scratch you are in for the entire thing.

If it is the glass, try going to a glass/window replacement store and ask them. What we use at the factory in these cases is a very fine sand like substance called Pumice. This is applied by wetting a wet rag dipping it in the pumice and then buffing, with extreme scratches we use an elctric buffer and the pumice.

Good luck

metal polish (Brasso etc) will often sort out small / shallow scratches, also takes anti-glare coatings off a treat.

I'd think pumice would be a little rough.  Must be a fine grade you use.
