newbie here! Question about Ultimarc ArcadeVGA / scart
« on: March 14, 2007, 02:01:37 pm »
Firstly - hello all! i'm New to this site/forum, and I must say it looks very helpful and friendly  :)

I have been using MAME for a while now, and have decided to take the next step i.e. away from my PC monitor! I definitely do not have room (or time/money) to build a cab, so I was thinking of a Ultimarc ArcadeVGA and TV combo. Now I have read about wiring up a VGA to scart lead in order to do this, but as i'm not exactly great at soldering etc I wondered if there was an 'off the shelf' product I could buy?

I have seen many 'VGA to SCART' leads advertised, but I want to make sure they will be suitable.

This type of thing:

Many thanks in advance for your worthy advice!  ;D

Yeah, I've also wondered why Andy is not making/selling an off-the-shelf vga to scart cable. The signal levels are ok on both sides, so there's no amplification required...

In fact this is the easiest and cheapest way to get a good "arcade monitor" in Europe.

I THINK that cable you indicate would be ok. Gernerely you've got red, green, blue and the syncing wires to think about. There's plenty of info about the connections on both sides on the internet. As long as R,G,B and comp.sync end up at the right pins, you're fine !

Since looking into all this, including SCART, I'm wondering why no one in the US has modified their sets for this?

US TV sets don't have the SCART input. :'(

That's what I mean: it's just a connector.  Why not wire one up?
