Well after looking at a
spec sheet for a Wells Gardner K7400 (which I'm guessing is a typical arcade 15khz display), I've seemingly confirmed that the Dotronix would abide by this limitation, and therefore would need an ArcadeVGA to function properly..
So Randy's talk of the card on his page wasn't just of mentioning it for like minded people, but of necessity.
I would really hate to have to settle for buying an ArcadeVGA, as it's based off a Radeon 9250. In my opinion that's really a rather weak base to start from. Although very understandable for the Mame-only crowd, I've already got a few games that I want to play on my cab but can't because of no native Directx 9 support (ie: Marvel UA, Raiden 3), which the Radeon 9250 suffers from. Not only that, but the low Pixel Pipelines leave much to be desired. As it stands I was planning on putting a Radeon 9700 I have into the cab, which would have solved everything on that front... that is, until this monitor showed up.
There's also mention on Randy's monitor page of something called Powerstrip, which I'm now looking into.. (weird territory for me, to say the least)
The reason I'm so adamant about this monitor is because I've been having such a hard time trying to find a TV to fit my cab that meets my restrictions. Finally I find this guy in NJ who happens to have a video monitor that not only fits the size I need, but doesn't have the whole video labeling issues, ("VIDEO 1"), seems to have an RGB PC connection, AND only costs
$80 ...you can understand why I'm just a bit hopeful..
The reason I havent just bought a
WG D9400 already is really because of the price. I simply just can't afford to spend $500+ on the display alone for the cab... at least not yet. And by not yet I mean for a LONG TIME.
