Anyone artistic able to help with a marquee?
« on: March 09, 2007, 12:39:05 pm »
My son's mini cab is complete except for the marquee. We're not looking for anything fancy, just something dinosaur themed that says "Dinocade". The cab is dark green with bloody toothmarks at the top (don't ask), and a camoflauge cpo. The dimensions are 18.5" x 5". Anyone have the time or wherewithall to help out?

I'll be honest with you here. I'm no artist, but I just love this father/son thing your doing. I decided to quickly throw together a marquee. The background needs some work, but we can clean it up if you like it.

I would be glad to show you how to recreate this on your computer or I can clean up these files. I am a little concerned that these graphics might be too much for a kid, but I leave that call to you.

I should mention - I am slightly worried about the T-rex eye. It's at the very top of the marquee and I'm not sure where your marquee retainers land.

The second issue is if the letters are lost in the busy background.

That's pretty cool Lew.  After all the weeks I agonized over my artwork I'm a bit jealous that you were able to just "quickly throw together' that marquee.

Nice job.

Lew,
I will quote my son (Bort)...
"Wow! That's the one!"
Nice work, Lew! I should have known I could count on a fellow asshat.  ;)
I am a bit concerned with the eye as well but the words don't bother either of us at all. I measured the visible area with the marquee clips in and it's 4 and 1/8" high. If you have the time to make a quick change, can you move things around to maximize the 4 and 1/8"? If you don't have the time, no problem, you've done a lot!

Sure, no problem. Let me work on it tonight - I'll fix the background, center the lettering, and send you a link to the file as soon as I can. (2 days tops)

Ok, so I put another one together. You and Bort have some decisions to make!

This one has a little bigger head and a little brighter letters. Do you like the T-rex head further back so you can see more of the tongue or do you like the close up one.

Let me know and I'll get it together for you guys.

Hey Lew,
You da man! It's perfect just the way it is. I like the close up and so does Bort. Is the one you attached the best one to use with mamemarquees.com or is there another one in a specific format that would be better? Just wondering before I send it off tomorrow.
Thanks again, I never would have come close to putting something this cool together. Props.

No, I'll PM you with instructions on how to download it. The file I attached is definitely not good to send to mamemarquees.

Looks good. I'd suggest maybe increasing the outer yellow-white glow around the letters so that they stand out from the background more.

It's a good project. You'll have to post some pics when it's finished.

Yeah... Mr. Cowbell doesn't seem real picky (which is good for me because I don't have much time or talent).

I was thinking something with harder letters with more bevel.

Here is both - more yellow and letters with more edge

They both look great but I'm partial to the glow. The letters really pop now.

One other addition though. Can you add a black bar to the top and bottom to make the full height 5"? That way it can be printed 18.5" x 5" and the part that shows will be the art.  :applaud:

A mere one week after ordering the Dinocade marquee from Scott at mamemarquees.com, it arrived in perfect condition and looks fantastic! Check out the pictures. The one with no flash makes it look yellowy but it isn't at all. It came out fantastic and Bort is very very happy as am I. Thanks again to Leapinlew for the design, layout, changes, and effort to get this thing made. It really completes his little cab.

Your kid must be in heaven.  I know my boy's favorite toy is the cab I built for him.  Nice job.  :applaud:
