very nice man! excellent game room you got there. I need to get me a few uprights to restore and a pinball machine.. then again i just bought a house and could barely afford to get some xmas gifts for the gf and family.. so the arcade stuff got pushed back again unless I can find someone local willing to donate a few old cabs to me!!

but very nice job bud. I love Centipede good steal for 300 even if it required a bit to clean up/fix up! enjoy it for sure!!!

Perfection on the centipede man & old school pins too for that matter! Did you restore them as well?

No - the pins were rebuilt by a guy in the next town over. i bought them from him.

On the Centipede I bought: New CPO (Ebay), Fire button (arcadeshops), trackball (arcadeshops), "cones" for start buttons and T-molding (arcadeshops) and sideart (Phoenix). About $250 for parts...

The game had the original trackball (which sucked bad...), so i bought the Happ replacement - what a difference!

Are you in Idaho (I see the license plates in the CPO pic).  I'm in northern Utah, about 30 minutes from southern Idaho.  Great restoration, I've been thinking about making a centipede.

Yeah - I'm in Meridian, next to Boise.

Nice restoration!   ....and air hockey...

:)

One thing that has always bugged be about the Centipede CP...

...look at it...look where the button goes...doesn't it look like it SHOULD go in the burst inside the mushroom below it?   But it DOESN'T for some reason?    Even the originals are the same way....very strange indeed.

Nice work, bro. I just finished my cocktail, and I've got to get some pics up.

Excellent restore. Really should be proud of it. I'm sure you'll have fun showing it off. One of my all-time favorites.

This just came up in another thread actually.  The theory is that the button was originally supposed to go there, but it was more uncomfortable resting your hand lower down on the edge like that so they moved it up (without bothering to change the CPO).

Where's the links to the pics? Do they disappear when a thread gets moved?

arcadefever or chopps - How are you looking at the pics? When I open this thread there are no links after the CPO:, Cabinet:, or Done: ? There is nothing for me to click on to look at it.

It has been my experience that for some reason some folks just can't see images from IMAGESHACK...perhaps it is a setting set to strictly?   Perhaps their IP has blocked them (imageshack that is)?

I don't know...but I have had more than one person tell me that my images that I uploaded and linked to imageshack were were not appearing for them.

Wow! that looks great.  I actually just did a centipede myself.  It was my first experience with an arcade machine at all.  I talked the guy down to $100 bucks for the whole thing.  I put $150 into it for a new Happ monitor and a couple of bucks for a new fire button.  Thing works like a charm now.

It looks like you re-did the side walls, side art and CP art.  My cab works great but it really needs some cosmetic help.  Is it hard to fix the side walls and is the art expensive?

I have just started hanging out around here because I love my centipede so much I have been thinking about building a MAME machine.  Sounds like it is hard to build a MAME for less than a grand, is that accurate?

thanks and great work on the centipede!!!!

Hey Nate - the sides just took a little sanding, then primer. The side-art i ordered ($100 w/shipping) covers the sides completely. Then new t-moulding.

I have heard you can go mame for less than $1000.

thanks for responding.  Your side cab looks amazing!  Seriously I really need to do that to mine.  Mine is great cause it plays well, but it looks nothing like yours does.

My cab has really bad MDF breakout or chipping.  Did yours?  I think I would have to fill the holes before I could prime and paint.

Mine had minor chippage. I fixed most of them, then put a bunch back in it getting it into the basement...

If you are to fix the MDF properly, I have read that Bondo is the way to go...
