Problems w/ 15khz mode on WG 9200
« on: March 28, 2003, 09:43:29 pm »
Just got my new 9200 and had a few issues and was wondering if anyone had seen this.  First off I am running a geforce 256 card w/ win XP.  I have tried advMame's advcfg and can get the calibration screen for 31.5 and 25, but when I try to run at 15.7 I get 'no signal'.

Also I have noticed that with hardware stretch off and auto for resolution.  Several games cause the display to say 'out of range' what is really odd is two differnt games with the same display specs ie
Blasted - runs fine
Discs if Tron - Monitor says 'Out of Range'

Strange since both these games have the same display spec 512x480 30Hz

Anyone got any ideas or experence with this.

I have a similar question.  I was thinking about setting my my D9200 to run some games at 15khz.

To run 15khz, do I have to use the CGA input on the back or can I just keep my VGA connection, and tell my video card to send 15khz?

You can use the VGA connection for all of the supported singnals.

Awesome, thanks for the tip!  I might have to try some 15khz modes soon.

I tried using advancemame last night but it crashed whenever I got to the screens where I could adjust the size/position.  I tried telling it I have a D9200 and then just tried to run some roms.  It bombed then, too.  ??

So I tried mame romname -monitor arcade.  It worked!  Wow, that was easy.

My mame won't take the option -monitor, it lists it in the .txt docs, but not under -showusage.  When I try it says 'unkown option'.  Is this only usable with certain builds ?  I am using mame066b_i686.

They might have killed it at some point.  I am using v0.36.

FWIW, although the 15khz mode looked more "authentic", it really hurt my eyes in certain games.  Games like Pacman and Donkey Kong (where there isn't a lot of screen movement) didn't bother me at all, but Defender (lots of movement) and Dig Dug (lots of large colored areas) really did.  I played a bunch of classics in that mode just once, then set everything back to vga mode.  Much easier on the eyes and still authentic enough that no one else who uses my game will ever know the difference.
