Are you running Billabs 27" and AVGA?
« on: November 05, 2006, 01:58:58 pm »
I'm not really doing anything with my project at the moment, and I haven't actually finished my troubleshooting with Andy at Ultimarc. But, I thought I'd ask ya'll.

Is *anyone*... (ANYONE!) running a Billabs 27 multi-sync connected to one of the old 1st generation Arcade VGA cards?

No. But I'll be running the Billabs with AVGA2 in a couple months. Are you concerned it doesn't work?

So far it *DOES'NT* work. Be leary of the Billabs until you find someone you KNOW is running both.

With a little searching I came across this post from Andy at ultimarc:

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=59332.msg585916#msg585916

And another one:

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=57691.0

So it seems that it should work.

I eventually got this to work and mine was a unique situation where the drivers just plain and simply would NOT load. The work-around was bizarre and I'll post something in my project thread about it next update I make.

Wrast you might be in for a lot of frustration if you approach a hobby like this with the expectation that things will just work or that they should just work. Many, many products recommended here are developed and supported by others who happen to be into gaming just like us. They don't have the resources that a Microsoft has and, as a result, not everything will just work without some effort (sometimes substantial) from us.

I may have spoken too soon. I still have issues getting this combination to work. I'm updating merely for the benefit of those considering a Billabs / AVGA combo. I'll update this thread if and when Andy and I find a solution.

I have an ArcadeVGA card and a Billabls 27" Multi-Sync monitor.  I've had no problems at all.  Let me know if you need any specific info about my setup.

l have the same monitor with the geforce 6600 gt, but thinking of buying the new Arcadevga card . How does the card go with lastest pc games eg- pro evolution soccer. l once had the older arcadevga cards (7000 & 9200) but didnt find any advantages using it so l just resorted to using a faster graphics  card. What do you think are the advantages of using this card with these kind of monitors??

Yes, I'd be interested in your setup. My single biggest problem has been getting the drivers to install on two different cards. It's frustrating to say the least. I'll PM you or post back here when I'm in a position to work on this again later this week.

EDIT: Not 2 different cards, 3 different machines.

I haven't seen it yet, but I would think that the difference would be pretty noticable. I think a lot of people, myself included, want the most authentic experience possible. The AVGA claims to be able to deliver that and *that* is what I'm after. Since you play a lot of newer games, the difference might not be that noticable for you.

I can't say what is causing your problems, but I had a problem with my setup and here's what I did.

Installed the drivers and immediately rebooting in safe mode.
went to device manager and removed the PCI to AGP bridge and
everything worked great.

Some MB's don't have that listed ( it will be in system devices )

Once you get it running,  the AVGA is well worth the money you spent on it.
I'm tracking your progress at the Fort too, hope to see it get going

Hmmm... this *did* sound interesting so I tried it. I didn't have the exact same driver loaded (PCI to AGP) but found one similar and gave it a shot. I figured "what the hell, I've tried everything else". No luck... but a pretty ingenius solution.

Thanks man. I dunno anymore. I was thinking that the difference would be mind-blowing, but anymore I'm thinking I can live with hardware stretching. I'll wait and see what the new card Andy is shipipng me will do. Again, I prayin it's a card issue as I have no other options left outside of blaming the video drivers. The former can be fixed. The later I may have to wait a while.

About half way down the page, you can see the exact procedure I did.....
