I have now done this twice.
It's easy
If you are careful really all you need to do is
Disconnect from power supply
Undo the 4 retaining screws around the monitor
undo any mounting screws connecting the chassis to the cab
Undo any wires from the chassis to the cab or Jamma
Since you are throwing it away, then i would just yank the monitor out the top.... the chassis will dangle but who cares.
It is safe to touch the glass and the mounting brackets of the monitor.
If you really want to be super safe then there are many posts here about discharging a monitor.
The Kiss approach (Keep it simple stupid) is to wrap a wire around the shaft of a long screwdriver (metal bit of screwdriver in contact with metal bit of wire.
attatch the other end of the wire to an earth point on the monitor or chassis. Basically there will be a braided wire in a criss cross around the back of the monitor from each corner---------- this is earth
Put on your miss's rubber gloves - what the hay its only to look nice
Wear rubber soled shoes
stick the screwdriver (hold only the plastic) up under the rubber boot that surrounds the biggest thickest wire that plugs into the side of the back of the monitor.
If you are lucky you will hear a sound.............. If you do wait 10 minutes and do it again.
If you dont hear a sound wait 10 minutes and do it again
Monitor should be discharged. Lick it to be sure (go on i dares you)
wack in a PC monitor and voila
