Default Mame Key question
« on: March 25, 2003, 01:23:41 pm »
Oh boy, I bet I'm gonna get ripped for this question=P

I recently setup my control panel using the stock MAME default keys via my newly installed key wiz (cue the lens glint and ping)...

I like to run advmame.  Since i'm in win98, it is recommended that I use the dos varient of advmame in windows...

When I button mash on the player one side the CTRL + ALT etc combo (presumably) illicits some sort of windows function key stroke (kinda like alt - tab but not really) ... I tried futzing around with the advmame shortcut to specifiy/uncheck being able to use certain ctrl  + alt combos etc... but  it still happens.

Ironically it doesn't happen if I use regular mame windows command line...  *shrug*

thanks,

rampy

PS also looking for tips for making windows command line regular mame full screen without using hardware stretch...  sometimes I wonder if I was better off back in DOS =P

Right click on your advancemame .exe in explorer and choose 'Properties'.  Then click on 'Misc' and make sure the 'Windows Shortcuts' are all unticked.

Maybe it is Alt+Space or something (?)

Hope it works...

That's weird.  I've only disabled all possible button combinations shortcuts from within my fastmame properties.  No problems at all.  And my girlfriend only knows how to button mash.  Of course, I'm using fastmame and an iPac2, but am not aware that this would make any differnces - key presses are key presses, whether you have an IBM, MS, or Logitech keyboard...

well if you were to try the same thing with dos advancemame (or dos regular mame) in windows (and changed taht shortcut appropriately) I wonder if you'd fare the same as me or not...

I've got a few theories that i'm going to try out tonight  -- but still looking to see if some definitive answer rolls down the pike =P

What SirP said.... the first thing you should do when you setup mame is replace the alt key with something else.  Ctrl combos are fairly harmless but ctrl+alt+anything = trouble.  What's sad is these keys are even disabled in the MAME source and yet you can STILL cause shortcuts to happen in mame.

Also minwah... I also tried the disabling windows keys route and I've found that particularly in 98se, Me and Xp it doesn't want to work all the time.  I'm guessing this is a long seeded bug, or improper documentation on msdn's part.
