There some seriously hardcore former console collectors here, myself included.  Many of us moved on to arcade games eventually but still have the majority of a very large console collection boxed up in the basement... myself still included.

I am impressed by your (arcade-mad) collection!!!  I guess you are not into the modding thing, which is good.  Your collection looks kool man, I mean with the covers and displaying them!!

Well, all my consoles are belong to someone else now.   ;)

I sold all my console stuff upon moving.  Here's a couple of links, tho.  One to a pic of the whole shebang and two to PDFs listing what I had; carts, boxes, instructions, etc.

I still have a PS2, Dreamcast and XBox.  The modded PS2 is for sale, too.

In the pic, 5200 stuff on the left, 2600 in the center and on the wall mounted shelf, 7800 stuff on the far right.  Berzerk arcade making a cameo, too.

Although I have no pics at the moment, I do have the following consoles.

2x - Xbox (1 solely used at media center device) w/ boxes
1x - SNES w/ box
1x - NES Deluxe Set w/ R.O.B. loose
1x - Nintendo 64 w/ box
1x - NEC TurboGrafx NIB
2x - Atari 5200 w/ boxes
1x - Sony PS2 w/ box
1x - Atari Flashback 2 NIB
1x - Sega Genesis (ver.1) w/ box
1x - Sega Dreamcast w/ box
1x - Donkey Kong Jr. upright (OK, not a console, but worth mentioning)

Of course, numerous games with each system as well. I just recently started collecting what I consider to be the classic consoles.

BTW, I've always loved the PAL versions of the SNES better than the NTSC. I'll have to get one of those someday.

I've yet to really start my collecting (at least games-wise) since I have no money and no place to put it right now.  Once I have a place of my own though.... it's probably gonna be bad  :laugh2:  I do have a decent amount of systems however.

I currently have
- Atari 2600
- Atari 5200
- Colecovision
- Sega Master System
- Sega Genesis
- Sega Game Gear
- NES
- SNES
- N64
- Gamecube
- PSX
- PS2
- PSP
- Dreamcast
- Nintendo DS
- Gameboy Color

I only have a few games for most of the systems however... maybe an average of 20 or so for most of them.
first off your and idiot

Man I love the internet, haha.

No pics either since I boxed it all up but I have at least one of nearly every console, including variations within consoles, to have been produced in North America.  Many of those systems I have a substantial chunk of the library for as well.  I would estimate that I have about 75% of the N64 library (complete, boxed and manuals) and the same for the Saturn (complete).  Both N64 and Saturn stuff still to get is all cheap stuff.  I have the full domestic VB library sitting next to a NIB VB (and a couple to play)... erm... ~300 NES games, not far off that for 2600 games... I'm missing probably 3-4 Vectrex games for a complete (boxes, manuals, overlays) collection, including the Imager complete in box.  Recently sold off the Laseractive collection but still have the 3D goggles.  Have about half the TurboGrafx domestic library, quite a few of the top PCE games, and all domestic TG hardware complete in box including the TE and all accessories.

The collection used to be much bigger but I've been selling stuff off to fund the pin hobby.  Still have stacks of some consoles (NES, Genesis, 2600) that I need to do something with soon.

The only consoles I can think of immediately that I don't have would be the Sega CD (though I have a lot of games for it), Jaguar, and maybe the Astrocade.

And like horseboy said, a bunch of random Pongs and such that just sort of appear out of nowhere.  And more TI99 stuff than I have any idea what to do with.

Is there anyone out there with a vectrex. I remember a friend having one sometime in 84 or 85 and it seemed pretty cool. I haven't seen one since.

I've got a Vectrex & a pretty good chunk of the games that are available for it. Some of the best are recent(ish) homebrews.

He didn't say that he wasn't welcome to post it here. He meant that he would get a much better response if he posted in a console collecting forum. Also, arcade-mad did say he wanted pics, but for those of us with really large collections it can be a pain to dig it out and take pics. It would take me over 20 hours of work probably. I think listing what you have in lieu of pics is still interesting to most and sticks with the overall spirit of the thread.

Odyssey2 (25)

Ya got Pick Axe Pete?  Man, I loved that game!  Even though I was the poor bastard that got the Odyssey instead of an Atari 2600...

Sorry, I don't have a pic of me playing the game.

I forgot about the Odyssey2!  I have about an 85% complete (boxes, manuals too) Odyssey2 collection with all revisions of the console also complete.  I don't have a boxed voice module but do have a couple of the modules... and I also have the really rare factory refurb version that they sent out to customers that had to have warranty service, complete in box.

Actually I'm pretty surprised that so many people have such large collections and don't already have pictures.  Obviously most of this stuff is near worthless from a practical perspective.  You will never play about 95% of the games in your collection and about 80% of it is probably crap that you wouldn't really want to play anyway i.e., you own 2600 ET because you're a collector, not because the game is worth owning.  So since you're collecting for the sake of having a big collection of classic (and not so classic) consoles/games I would think you'd be all about having pictures and/or displaying it.

. . . just a thought.

Nice collections to everyone.  I currently do not have any console stuff except a few 2600 games a friend just recently gave me.  I can see how it would be very tempting to get hooked into this though (the thrill of the hunt for the next game to complete a collection could drive you insane considering the number of titles out there).

In my case, I haven't really started "collecting" per se.  I just made the decision that it was never worth it to trade in/sell my systems... so I never did.  My collection is the sum of all systems that I've had growing up as a kid.  Dad got me my Sega Master System when I was very young, and I sort of inherited some of the older systems from  relatives and as "tack on" gifts from my uncle, who had a lot of the Atari and Coleco stuff.

So that's why I dont have pics... no place to put them and I don't really see them as a "collection" until I can really start to get the games I want for the system.

I don't have a lot compared to most folks in this thread though. :)

Well, I guess I can admit that I didn't have any pictures of my Pez collection until I took some about 30 seconds before posting them on this board.  But that was easy cos they're all just sitting out in their display cases so I just walked out, snapped a couple pictures and voila.  I guess it seems like a collection of games and systems that are boxed up in the garage don't seem like a collection any more than one might have a collection of old clothes or a collection of christmas decorations.  But, I don't know, I suppose not everything a person collects lends itself to display, so maybe I'm defining collection a bit too narrowly.

i.e., you own 2600 ET because you're a collector, not because the game is worth owning.

I have E.T. for the 2600 not b/c I'm a collector but I thought the movie was cool and I thought that the game would be too when I was 7 years old, but as everyone knows I was completely wrong about the game.

There are so many copies of ET out there... it may be the most common 2600 game.  I probably have 10-15 of them.   :laugh2:

A bit of reading regarding the Atari ET game.

I just read that yesterday. So what is your conclusion?

Well I tried to keep my opinions out of it and just report the facts as I could find them. I really don't know, but it's not outside the realm of possibility.

No one collects neo-geo AES then? Thats for the best, the cost of those sky-rocketed for no good reason at all. MVS carts are so much cheaper.

I've had NES, SNES, N64, Dreamcast, PSX, Atari 2600.
Pretty small compared to most here. Good enough for me.

man, i love these threads, i have a decent sized console collection, however, since we are trying to get stuff packed up to move, unpacking them all just to take pics doesn't sound like alot of fun right now.  i'll try to take some pics after we move, but that won't b till the end of august.

i have the following consoles:

Atari 2600
Atari Jaguar
Atari SuperPong

NES (both models)
SNES
N64
Gamecube
Wii
Gameboy Advance SP
Gameboy Micro
Nintendo DS (old style)

TurboGrafx 16

Genesis (all 3 models)
32x
SegaCD (both models)
Saturn
Dreamcast

Playstation (both models)
Playstation 2 (both models)

xbox (one regular, one halo green edition, both modded)
xbox360

i have quite a few games and accessories as well.  I dont' have alot of the obscure stuff, but i have a friend who owns alot of the older consoles (coleco vision, several atari models, intellivision, neogeo, virtual boy), but he is alot older than I am and has been collecting them for alot longer.

well, the title of the thread says 'show'. my collection is quite small compared to others. N64 from other threads:

megadrive:

bought it brand new from thailand last year. its nice being the first open stuff up (",)

after getting carried away with the n64, i thought id pace myself by only looking for complete games for the sega, that is with boxes and instructions, at the right price. as you can see, my plan failed! bottom row are games i like, comix zone and dragons fury are the absolute favourites. the two on their own to the left suck the most...

handhelds. still dont know how to use GIMP to edit pics, so rotate it yourself! top to bottom: Lynx, Gameboy, Neo Geo Pocket, GP2X.

i have only bought brand new, in the box games for the lynx so far. the lynx itself was second hand, but in great shape. Gameboy is the only machine i had new, back in the day. well, a girlfriend bought it for me in 1996, so it was outdated by then. GP2X runs emulators for ALL of those machines and can hold the entire library of games of course. the game boy emu in particular is great because now i can play super mario land without straining my eyes  ;D i prefer the real deal for the others.

out of those i think im most impressed with the neogeo. its a pity it was so shortlived...

I don't have the biggest console by far, PS1, PS2, PSP, Dreamcast, and a trio of Xboxs.  It's not worth taking a photo of even.

However, my light gun collection is likely a different story.  So behold. :)

Blech! Sorry, the steel and leather office look belongs firmly back in the 80s sitting below a Nagel. The Eames did make some interesting plywood designs though.

Oh, and those chairs are extremely comfortable...I bought them exclusively for playing games.

You mean aluminium and brown fabric. If you do eames in leather, at least do it white. Chrome and black leather versions are for the office indeed. Americans have way too cheap classic-oak-carpenters. I feel sorry for your interiors, although I would love to work with some good woodworkers in Europe. Its IKEA crap al the way here.

You're right, how could I have ever confused that polished aluminum look for steel! What was I thinking. (Of course, "aluminum" is in the URL  :)  ). But confusing that dark smooth fabric for leather...unforgivable...a virtual crime against modern design.

Regarding your attitude, I think you're at cross purposes, confusing quality with taste. Cheap furniture in America comes from China or, as you so aptly pointed out, Scandinavia.   :)    American carpenters may tend to offer old, uninspired designs from your vantage, but in general they are not cheap, nor do they offer poorly constructed furniture by comparison. This is largely a matter of the economics of international trade of course.

Concerning taste, take for example the European affinity for frameless cabinetry versus the American style of face-frame cabinetry. They produce a vastly different style, but it would be a mistake to begin casting aspersions on those differences because of personal taste.

As far as oak goes, it's not my favorite type of wood either. But it does have the advantage of being inexpensive, readily available, strong and easy to work with.

I use them for anime and gaming events we hold at Carleton University and for anime conventions.  Too many people just focus on music games and fighting games for their 'video game rooms' so some of us started overhauling the idea and going with an arrangement of arcade ports.  We found that the light guns games are nearly as popular as things like DDR when given the chance.  Our video game rooms may be TVs and consoles instead of arcade cabs, but we set up all the staples; Daytona USA, Ikaruga, Metal Slug, Point Blank, Time Crisis, Pinball Hall Of Fame (Great if you can't afford a real pinball machine) Soul Calibur...  We aim to make the fun as arcade like as possible, dispite our limitations.

So to keep the gun games going, I collect what ever I can.  Allows for multiple setups and for replacement parts.  As sad as it is, there will always be some idiot that'll drop your light gun and smash it. :(

You did not get my point. I do not say americans make cheap stuff, I think their fantastic labour is too cheap so they make too good stuff!. Therefore lot buy never dying ancient oak cabinets. They are masters with their hands, but not very creative in what to do with them.

Sorry, I think there may be a language problem (I assume English is a second language to you, and commend you on using it as well as you are). When you said "Americans have way too cheap classic-oak-carpenters" above I took that to mean that American carpenters are either inexpensive or produce low-quality work, neither of which is the case.

Now you seem to be saying that because American "labour is too cheap" American carpenters produce too high of a level of quality. American labor for furniture is relatively expensive compared to the rest of the world, which is why nearly all of our furniture is imported. The stuff made domestically is typically both MORE expensive and of a HIGHER quality than that of typical imported furniture.

Both the chairs and the cabinets in my gameroom were made locally in my case; the cabinets by me and the chairs by a local wood shop.

Again, you can dispute the design (mainly on a subjective basis) and I don't expect everyone to like it (especially someone from half way around the world from a culture with different styles and tastes), but your comments about American furniture construction quality and expense are just plain wrong. Again, perhaps this is attributable to your use of English as a second language, and if so, I apologize for being so critical.    :)

Criticizing the design because it is of a typically classical American design ("ancient" in your words) would be like someone criticizing your Retro Space cab because it is of a new modern design. In other words, it would be to miss the point entirely!

Haha nothing beats the real hardware!
Damn straight!

Aaargh!!! But wtf are those chairs? Sorry if I make fun about your granma's inheritance, but seriously you cannot play in those! They did not know what a console was in 1890! Maybe Eames is one of the first who saw some light from the future.

Damn dude, troll much?

it's a thread showing off peoples consoles, not a decorating thread showcasing chairs. Got to say though, that chair you pointed out in your link his pretty damn hideous.

Nice stuff, everyone.  I love that the old consoles are still going strong.....

I'll post a few more pics, but here's the first 2/3rds of the Gamecube titles.  The Dreamcast collection is the real champ, tho...

edit: Dreamcast shots added....about 10 short of a complete US set.
